US1 Fountain 02-28-2004 05:46 PM

I like my Garmin 162 very well!

Velocity Tom 02-28-2004 05:51 PM

I would like to find something that will have a large disp.

Dock Holiday 02-28-2004 07:11 PM

Tom,

What ever size you get make sure it is a Garmin with the Blue Chart.

I have had two Ray Marine units with C-Map and the Blue Chart is far better.

We have two on our boat. A small 176C that works pretty well. It is not permanently mounted and we also use in in the truck.

This last season I bought a Garmin 2006C and all I can say is WOW. They are big, I would have liked to have got the 2010C, but it is huge!

They are crystal clear, very easy to see and to use.

Most everyone has them prices around $1999.00, but you can get one at West Marine by telling them a competitor has them at a boat show cheaper. Got mine for $1700.00 + tax.

Good luck

There's an Interphase GPS in my Cigarette but I don't care for it. I use my Garmin GPS aviation handheld unit.

Waterfoul 02-28-2004 08:02 PM

I also use a Garmin 162. Had nothing but good luck with it.

OldSchool 02-28-2004 08:35 PM

Garmin 182C. Haven't used it yet...Picked it up at the Miami boat show.

JPD Motorsports 02-28-2004 10:11 PM

I run a garmin 182, but looking to upgrade to the 2006c

I have a Gramin 182C. It is not too big, so it fit nicely in the space I had for it and works great as well. I just finished making this bracket for it. I hated the plastic junk it came with. I copied the plastic one out of aluminum and had it powder coated.

DJD 02-29-2004 07:42 AM

The best gps ever....Garmin 2010C.........if you have the room to mount it.
BIG color screen with graphics which look exactly like a chart. Easy to read. Easy to use & you cant mess it up by pressing the wrong keys.

Stay away from those Interphase electronics like Crazyhorse has, they suck the big one:p

offthefront 02-29-2004 08:51 AM

Do you guys still maintain the Analog Speedo's ? I would think you would need it to work ..would bug me if it didn't ...would be kewl if there was an output from GPS to dash Speedo .....

Formula Outlaw 02-29-2004 08:59 AM

Presently have a Garmin handheld, but when the wife will let me, I want a Garmin 2006-C. These are killer units. Best daytime viewing color screen out there I've seen.

Bajagus 02-29-2004 09:32 AM

Hey Dock,

How is that 176c in the sun?? I have been thinking about getting one.

Gus

Madcow 02-29-2004 12:24 PM

Get color, so you can see it a nite. I have a Garmin 180, and other than the nite vision it is a GREAT unit. Very easy to use.

With a little creativity (and some plexiglas), you can always MAKE room for it:

Not sure what you mean by this? I have no issue seeing my black and white screen at night.

Sydwayz 02-29-2004 09:57 PM

Garmin... and very happy with it:

We had a Garmin 182C on our Top Gun. It was a nice unit, but if you have the room I would go to a unit with a little bit larger screen.

The Gladiator has a Raymarine. It works fine, but I liked the Garmin better.

For the Apache, we just got a Northstar 6000i. This unit absolutely blew me away! The color screen is huge for the unit size, it is easily readable in sunlight and the options are endless. It can even serve as a TV/video screen if you want. I have not run with this unit yet, but I am looking forward to it.

Thanks for all the good info!

Mine is slightly offset to one side, so if you are not looking at it strait on you can't see it.

OU Want Some?!! 03-01-2004 08:25 PM

have 176C, 182C, and 2010C. All work great with interchangable chips. go with anything garmin and color.

Madcow 03-01-2004 08:28 PM

BTW, does anyone have a G chip for Bimini I can borrow for a week next month? I hate to buy one when I may never use it again.

Lucky 03-01-2004 09:46 PM

Hey Guys,

Here is a new Lowrance that I have been thinking about purchasing. If it will fit on my new Sunsation 288 2004 where the trim tab indicators would be.

I am 90% ready to buy th 176C. Is everyone happy with it? It sure seems Garmin and color is the way to go. I don't have much room. (hence the 176C)

Reed Jensen 03-04-2004 12:11 AM

Is anyone still using Loran??? :p

The Menace 03-04-2004 05:05 AM

Garmin 182C

This is my 3rd Garmin. Love em. The 182C is not to big and not to small for a performance boat. You can check your position in a channel by the color differentiation with a glance.

Vyper340 03-04-2004 05:45 AM

I have the Garmin 176C and love it, although I wish it were a bit larger sometimes. The color is awesome and the chart infomation is top notch! If you have the room go for the Garmin 2006!

splashandburn 03-04-2004 05:37 PM

Anyone out there have the Standard Horizon CP150C? It's between this and the Garmin 176C for me - I really like the color of the CP 150C - ay opinions??

218diver 03-04-2004 07:47 PM

I hvae used three different Garmin GPS's over the last 8 years and the all worked great. the first where handhelds and used them for boating, hunting and biking with no conplaints. Last year bought a Garmin 168 sounder/ GPS and love it.

nolimits 03-04-2004 07:53 PM

I have a Garman 2006c. For me thats the ticket... Used others, like the Garman buttons/touch/feel.
