XM Radio
I want to put am XM radio in radio in my 2000 Chevy dually. I really didn't want something that looks line an add on unit. Any suggestions?
|
Madcow, what style/model are you looking at? I have a pioneer style that I installed, ziptied the reciever under the drivers seat, put the fm modulator behind the radio under the dash, installed a glass mounted antenna behind pass seat, and put the controller in my roof console area, looks really clean and you cant see anything that looks out of place except the antenna.
|
oops, forgot to add, mines a 2000 silverado and I meant reciever under the passengers not the drivers seat.
|
I was thinking more along the lines of an in dash.
|
is it this style? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...me=rvi%3A1%3A1

Check out crutchfield.com. They have a number of units that fit the GM hole in the dash.
If you can use a DIN sized unit, Alpine just came out with a unit that has the XM receiver built into the head unit. http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/...y=20&p_main=10 |
if you go aftermarket in dash you will still need receiver installed and maybe even an fm modulator, depends on system, I think. Also on the newer trucks with factory xm you can not just buy xm reciever head and get xm, you need a receiver and antenna hardware and all that crap, mucho expensive that way.

I didnt read chucks post very well, thats really cool they finally came out with an integrated reciever/headunit.

XM sucks!!! Sirius has much better stations. Have Both getting ready 2 get rid of XM.

I've had the Alpine in dash XM for 2 years in my F350. The new integrated unit at crutchfield doesn't even require a separate receiver. That would be the way to go. Very happy with the XM in my Truck and Boat. Most of the boaters I know had XM over Sirius so it was an easy choice. No regrets and wouldn't get another vehicle without it.

I have questions about the future of Sirus. I recently heard they were struggling. I foresee a buyout or a merger with one of the larger Satelitte network corps. Stifel Nicolaus from Market Perform to Outperform/Buy but it ain't happening

XM ROCKS !
I have it in my Suburban and now they have local weather / Traffic REAL TIME.
I f'ing cant live without it. |
Originally posted by Fever Mike I would not say XM sucks but I do know for a fact that XM does not compress the news, comedy and sports stations like Sirius does. The Sirus news and sports stations have the sound quality of AM radio. Sirius came on with a big bang but it seems like XM radio is the one to have. |
Originally posted by Moisture-Missil you really need to get your facts strait , And I aint just talkin about Sat. Radio. I think you will get your CLUE in the next week or two . you truely are clueless. I bought a Pioneer add on unit today. My truck already has the bose system in it, so I really didn't want to replace the whole unit. The one I got has a small display panel that mounts right on the dash below the head unit, so it looks pretty clean. I have never listened to serius, but I have XM in my other cars and I am very happy with it. |

things that make you go hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm. |

My wifes yukon has XM and a Bose system....she loves it!! I'm diggin' the 6 disc in dash changer.
|
Just got the XM set up..I plan to install it myself.
Only problem ..its a ***** to get to everything in the dash. Any secret to removing the OEM 6cd setup in a F-250??? |
I'll be trying sirius in a few weeks when i put my "new to me" rig back together after the refurb. I'll let you all know how it goes and what it sounds like. I've experienced xm before and chose sirius for the boat due to more choice in music channels.
|
They also included the sat receiver free with purchase of a sirius ready head unit. I only had to buy the antenna. So for $99 more plus the monthly fee and you can have sat radio. I think overtons, boatersworld, crutchfeild all carried the free sat receiver deal.
