Pick up bed covers
I just ordered a new Nissan Titan Crew Cab LE. I want to keep tools in the bed so I'm looking for dry secure storage. I want a bed cover that will lock.
So far I like the Pace Edwards covers. Any thoughts or personal experiences? |

Hi Ron. I have the motorized Pace on my F150. It works great and is very weather tight. Comes with two remotes.
|
Ron,
I own and operate a truck accessory store for a living. Not trying to stir up a *&^% storm here, but I wouldn't spend any of my hard earned money on the Pace Edwards myself. I have sold a few dozen of them through the store. EVERY single one of them has constant problems. In the past month or so I have had about 5 customers request this product. I refused to sell it to them. I have a problem taking money from someone for something that isn't worth anything. I just feel like a product that sells for that much money should hold up better. I converse with a lot of discussion forums that are truck related. I can name a large number of individuals that have put these by the curb for the trash man to pick up on his weekly route. Take it for what it's worth.... PS...I have heard VERY good things about a product called Roll 'N Lock. I don't have access to them nor have I seen one. But there seem to be a lot of people going this way instead of the Pace Edwards product. Buck |
Buck,
What about a product called "Under Cover" http://www.undercoverinfo.com/ . I have been thinking of getting a cover as well. Does not have to be a roll top. |
Thanks for the advice. Here's two other brands. Roll n Lock and Retrax. Any one ever use them?
http://www.rollnlock.com/ http://www.rolltopcover.com/ As for the truck itself. When I had the race boat we had a Ford F350 Turbo Diesel Dually (What else:D ) to pull the boat. And I loved that truck. This time around we drove the Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Dodge, and Chevy full size trucks. The Nissan drove the best and the accessories that come with the bed are terrific. The Nissan won the four wheeler magazine offroad contest. Nice 305 HP overhead cam motor and super plush ride for a pick up. |

The Under Cover has been a GREAT product for us. If you need the security of a hard cover but like to remove it a lot this is by far the way to go. They are VERY tough, light, easy to remove and install. No worries about scratching from handling. They come with hooks for the garage wall. We actually stand on one at our shop to get on the roof instead of using a ladder. We have had five full grown men standing on it at one time with no problem.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy this product in a second. Not to mention it's cheaper than the Pace Edwards. If you guys get prices in your area on the Under Cover and want to know what they SHOULD go for just drop me a line. I'll make sure the dealer isn't gouging you. Buck |
Buck,
Thanks for the quick response. |
Do not buy a Gaylord cover . It took 4 months to get then to pay to repaint my cover . The guy in warranty Magill is a liar!!
|
I have had the electric Pace Edwards on my truck for two years now without any problems. My racing partner has had one on his 99 F-350 since it was new without any problems. They are secure, convenient and weather tight. I personally would buy one again without hesitation.
|
I currently have a Roll-N-Lock cover on my pick-up. In two years it has taken more abuse than what I ever expected. I've dropped things on it. Its been hit with a bat. Hauled lumber and other things on it. Fork-Lift hit it. It has had a ROUGH LIFE. It still works EXACTLY like it is supposed too. Someone also tried to break into it. Hence, my aim was a little off with the bat. WELL WORTH the money I spent. It has out-lived my expectations. Excellent product.

I have a white Snug-top that came off my 2000 F-350 shortbed that I will sell cheap. I paid $600+ for it, will sell somewhere around $300. It's a little rough and in SoCal

Roll and Locks work alright...have dealt with a few ..I have seen a couple that like to come unlocked and slide forward ...could have been operator error.:)
whatever you get don't forget to include a "Swingbox" |
Got a Lear on my F350. Fits great , weather tight , came painted and matched perfectly , automotive style double arm hinge , no hole installation , $799 :)
|
Snug Top makes the nicest stuff out there IMO. Not cheap, but well made and very clean looking.
I would be very hesitant with Leer, my uncle had a Leer on his 99 Dodge, and after a few years the thing was falling a part. I have owned three Snug Top shells, and i will be ordering a fourth soon for the new truck. http://www.snugtop.com/p_snuglid.htm |
I am a Leer dealer. Haven't seen the problems mentioned above. Have a funny feeling I won't either. It all boils down to the dealer. Just like any product. I know my customers have nothing to worry about where I'm concerned.

I think Magill's job is to wear down the costumers thinking he will say to the hell with it and give up .From what I hear this seems common for this Business. I bought it from Autobahn in Atlanta and talked to them for help ,Warranty non existent. they also have problems with Magill, they told me to talk to Lisa but be nice to her . Nice is what took me 4 months to get something done . Magill is a Liar. I wonder how much bad publicity out of one costumer will do any harm:D As much time I spend on the computer surfing sites . I can redirect some of my time doing as much damage as possible:D All the truck forums. Paid 999.00 which included 100 shipping. everybody here was not a WD with them and where getting it from Keystone warehouse . They said there cost thru Keystone was 1250-1350. |
Strip,
You are correct. The X2000 is a higher priced model. Wasn't considering that one. I have never sold one so I don't know what cost is on them. I do purchase a lot of my inventory from Keystone. From the dealer's view, they can be hard to deal with when it comes to warranties on items like that. I actually stopped doing any special orders through Keystone due to lack of customer service from the vendors when special ordering products. I don't mind paying a little more for a product elsewhere when I know I'm taken care of it there's a problem. I actually found a local warehouse that carries Gaylords so I could get better service for the customer and avoid situations like yours. My fist choice for the customer will always be Leer, but the Gaylord's look is much cleaner IMO. I can easily see why one would want one. If things haven't been worked out yet let me know. I have no problem getting with Keystone and Gaylord's both. I have found that sarcasm goes much further than anger with these companies. :D I mean hell, what are they gonna do? Take my birthday away? :p EDIT...I just re-read your post. You didn't get it from Keystone. I'm an idiot. Buck |
I have a pace edwards bed locker (electric hard rolling cover) never had a problem in 2 years. It is great!!!

I was washing mine the other day and tried walking on it and it did not flex [barefoot], I was surprised. Stronger than I thought .Looks and the Hinge system was the only reason bought it. Keystone said just the hinge was 385.00.Just wish I had better experience with them .life is to short to put up with this crap. |

Roll n Lock
I have had a Roll n Lock for five years.
I never had any problems. It has excellent theft resistance. |
Bob is it paintable???

Originally posted by Strip Poker 388 Bob is it paintable??? Is the cover paintable? Our cover can be easily painted, as traditional automotive finishes will adhere very well to the surface of the cover. HOWEVER, we do not offer painted covers as it is EXTREMELY rare for a customer to paint the cover primarily because the surface of the cover is coated in a very expensive GELOY (made by GE Plastics) which not only looks great, but it can handle the elements. Please read more about GELOY in the first question of this section "What is the cover made of?" The bottom line is that painting over the GELOY surface would be the equivalent of painting over a ceramic tile floor, a formica countertop, or painting over vinyl siding. Can it be done? You bet! However, it is very rare that this is done as you by painting this type of surface, you give up the durability of being able to walk, or work on this surface without scratching it. Painting not only adds a great deal of cost to the cover, but it requires maintenance as paint cracks are also inevitable in any cover that flexes to some degree (virtually every fiberglass cover has hairline cracks in the paint). Some people order the cover with the intention of painting it themselves once they get it. However, once they get the cover on their truck and they see how good it looks, it is extremely rare that they ever go through with painting the cover. Because of its low profile and the fact that the black finish matches all the other black trim of your truck so, "IT LOOKS FACTORY!" - much more so than a fiberglass cover that is custom painted and everyone knows is aftermarket! The matte black color matches all trim like your plastic side rail covers, tailgate protectors, body side moldings, window trim, tires, etc. In today's truck world, when you see a painted tonneau cover, it really states to the world that you have an "aftermarket" product on your truck! Trucks that offer Factory Installed Tonneau Covers like the Cadillac Escalade, the Chevrolet Avalance and the Ford Explorer Sport Trac, have covers that are "factory installed" and are typically matte black (or dark gray) to match the trim pieces of the truck, and these covers are never painted. In a nutshell, people do not paint their cover because: 1) IT LOOKS FACTORY INSTALLED! - It's completely flat, and much more sleek in profile than more bulkier fiberglass covers! 2) THE COVER IS UV RESISTANT - This product is virtually unaffected by UV Ray as a painted surface would be. 3) THE COVER MATCHES EVERY TRUCK - The matte black color matches all trim (very similar in color to a vinyl top). 4) There is typically NO SHIPPING DAMAGE - Due to the super-tough mar resistant finish, shipping damage is virtually eliminated! 5) THE COVER WILL NOT SCRATCH - The same super-tough mar resistant finish is very resistant to scratches! You cannot say that about painted fiberglass covers! 6) EXCESSIVE HANDLING will not harm this cover! As it is not painted and it has the super-tough mar resistant finish, you shouldn't think twice about removing and re-installing the cover! Back to Top |
Ron...give Suburban Caps in East Brunswick a call.
Im sure they can hook you up. they are the best in the area.. IMO |
A friend of mine has a roll N lock on his F250.. well his 4th F250... He gets a new truck every year and has transfered the cover to every one of them. The thing is indestructable... I have walked on it, used it to put chairs on etc... It keeps the water out also, he has a carpeted liner in the bed, and it never gets wet.

I have a Pace Edwards electric roll up on my truck. I don't use it that often, but it has worked great so far. The motor is starting to sound a little weak though. I like the remote and the light. I don't have the electric lock on it yet.
