will there be much boat traffic going to catalina on a weekday? have a compass but no gps.

You don't need a gps to go to catalina.... just head west out of Long Beach.... or almost due south out of Marina del rey and you run right into it... on a clear day you can see it from Long Beach.This time of the year you will have almost the whole San Pedro channel to yourself on a weekday.. and not much more on the weekend....

You might not recognize the water out here because it's clear instead of the murky brown colored stuff you have at loto, but it is still a lot of fun...
