Lake Okoboji IA, any info?

Does anyone have any info on this lake? Would you tow 400 miles to boat on this lake? Are there any major parties or poker runs? Any info is welcome.

pretty small lake, we have had a lake house there since I was born, but once I found loto I haven't been back. I did talk to someone that said the boats up there are getting bigger, but I don't know if it is worht it. I guess I am probably out of the loop as fara as what goes on there, but our 20' Cobalt in the 90's was very big for the lake. I do know there are some 380 Sea Rays on the lake, but they can't fit under the bridge to get from one part of the lake to the other. West lake is the nicer part of Okoboji, East lake is scummier, but the skiers like it cause the water is warmer. I believe it is a very deep lake, probably can be a lot of fun, but I don't think there is a lot of performance boating. Tons of skiers when I went there a lot. My guess is it is not what you are looking for. I don't really think there is enough room to really run all out for very long. Tow it to the lake of the ozarks or the great lakes, if you are 400 miles from okobiji one of those has to be somewhat close.

I live in Iowa and I wouldn't tow to it....

I'll put it this way, we schedule a trip to the Ozarks every year......:p

nice clean little lake... nice town...

We go there once a year.

Tons of lake lice, and 18 to 20 ft open bows
pulling skiers and tubes.

There is a area on the west lake
where peoplle raft up and
hang out, but it's not really protected.

Hell, we have more action in our cove at
our local flood control lake by Des Moines,
than they do up there.

There are a few bars/resturaunts on the
water, they have piers, so you have to
be creative with your bumper placement.

I'm in a big delemma with the family now,
because they moved their week they go up
there to the 4th of july weekend, which
is usually a LOTO trip for me.

I've not yet figured out how I'm going to
pull this one off ;)

If you just want to hang out and relax, its
just fine.

From what it sounds like your looking for,
go to LOTO.

Troutly,

Yes, I boat there alot.

I'm only 10 minutes ( 5 minutes, once the
new house gets done next month) away
from it.

"Close" is the key word though.

Unless the waters up, there's only
about 6 miles to run.

We still manage to have some
big fun there though:D :D

Saylorville Lake is about the same.. at 70mph by the time you open it up you have to shut down for the bridge and then back on top you have to run the river.. but party cove is nice.. :D

I saw it once and didn't think it was all that big. Proably the only lake out there so it gets talked up alot. If I recall correctly, there is a small theme park on one side. It's a small park, but we really liked it. I think it was built back in the 20's and still has that old Cooney Island feel to it.

.......Arnold's Park is the name of the
amusement park.

Somebody help me figure out my
Okoboji vs. LOTO july fourth delemma:D :D

delemma? Seems to me LOTO is the only choice fror the 4th. Okoboji is a nice weekend getaway. The word weekend is key!!
