Honda Vtx 1800 C

Anyone here own a VTX 1800? I am thinking about buying one. What are your thoughts? I like the "C" version, not the retro. Was tossing the idea of a Harley around but this bike just has something about it. From what I find, those who own them are EXTREMELY loyal to them. I would put a set of pipes on it right away though. That big 55-gallon drum lookin' thing just has to go!

Any feed back would be great.:)

No bikes for this crazy Canuck, it's been done and never got a scratch, I consider myself lucky and figured the clock was ticking.
I've been to too many funerals heck just on this site there has been major disturbances in members lives and I have been here only 15 months.

Sorry buddy no vote from me on that, I'd rather help you with your property taxes! :D:D:D

I hear there my northern buddy. I have always said there are 2 types of riders in this world, those who have gone down, and those who have yet to go down. Luckily I have never gone down. I understand the risks assoiated with motorcycles and am fully willing to assume the risk.

Thanks for your concern. Now, about those property taxes.....:p ;)

You cant beat the quality or warrantee you get with the Jap bikes, I dont care what anybody says.
A Harley to me is a peice of art though and that cant be matched by anything but, so it comes down to what you are looking for.
The Honda IMO is a much more bang for the buck but it is amazing to me what people will pay for a used HOG.
Who are you riding with and what do they ride?

Nauti Kitty 03-09-2004 04:30 PM

I have one with a vance and hines pipe and a powercommander. Absolutely awesome ride for this style bike. It ain't no crotch rocket but it kicks on any harley with twice the reliability. It does not however have all the nice extra touches that harley's do. Chrome, braided lines and history ect. Mine always starts, always runs and costs less than half a new harley. Tough to beat. NK

BTW The customisers are really beginning to offer cool upgrades for the jap bikes. easy to pretty up.:)

vette131 03-09-2004 05:09 PM

i have one also vance & hines,k&n power comander
200 rear tire. will pull a wheelie in first & sometimes in second!! my buddy has a 12R & i kill him until 3rd gear!!

Shane 03-09-2004 05:16 PM

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will be riding with mostly Harley guys but have the same bike is not really important. I hear they handle like a dream too. I have noticed that there are more and more add ons coming from the aftermarket companies and you can REALLY trick out the VTX.

I too cannot comprehend HOW in the world a Harley that is 5-10 years old commands teh same money as a NEW one!

JnT 03-09-2004 05:18 PM

Look at the Road Star line from Yamaha first. They are supposedly better bikes. My Uncle swears by his Road Star.I looked into them last year and read some reviews.Do an online search for the Honda and Yamahas.Good luck and have fun with whatever you decide on!

Mr. Demeanor 03-09-2004 08:37 PM

VTX is a great bike. Ive ridden one and love it. The new one has a bigger tank which is a big complaint with the previous models.
Vette131, I have a little old Hayabusa I would love to run you with in the first couple gears :)

Shane go to www.hondavtx.com you will find lots of good info there.

Shane

My partner and I recently bought a Honda and Kawasaki dealership(Fulton, NY). My VTX 1800 C is on order should have it in a couple weeks. Be sure to take advantage of the $1,000 in free accessories from Honda. If I can help in any way let me know (315) 439-2196.

We also just bought a couple boats you might be familiar with. Both yellow - one kilo record - One has a slight deck problem - figured it out yet?;)

Later

Shane 03-10-2004 07:39 AM

Steve,

NO KIDDING! What the heck are you doing with a yellow submarine;) :D and a that 32? Congrats on the dealership! I was not aware of the $1,000 in accessories either. Had the talk with the wife last night and she has changed her tune a bit. Still workin' on it. With her having taken this pay cut to go back for ANOTHER degree, the budget is tighter than usual. I cannot wait for her to get back up to full speed! Anyway, got a few things shakin' here at work, will have more info hopefully by weeks end or beginning of next week.

Bob,

I spent a better part of yesterday on that site. That is one GORGEOUS bike!

vette131 03-11-2004 09:06 AM

bring your busa mr demeanor with no mods & we'll go red light to red light. my first two gears not yours. my buddy gets 9.80's on his 12r but on the street he's mine until i hit 3rd. after that it gets really ugly though. cycle world tested a stock vtx & it ran equal 0-60 with the 12r with a profesional rider. mines not stock & with the 200 metzler out back it's wicked out the hole. love busa's though, i just don't trust myself with that kind of top end speed.

[i just don't trust myself with that kind of top end speed. [/B][/QUOTE]

I will second that. If it's there it will be tested.

vette, its all good. I just dont understand how a vtx could outrun a 12. My buddies VTX cant touch me off the line. If you look at the 0-60 data for both bikes you see figues no lower 3.5 seconds for a VTX with most being around 3.8. Thats about a full second slower than the stats for a Busa or 12 which range from 2.2 to 2.8 seconds. 1st gear takes me to about 70mph.

PS. I think 100mph in boat is scarier than 180mph on a bike. Ive been 187 gps.

The VTX is a real nice Bike, I am also looking at one. I've narrowed my decision to two bikes ---the Honda VTX and the Harley V-rod. My wife wants whatever will be more comfortable for her as a passenger. I'm sure the Honda rides better and will have less mechanical problems but A Harley is a "Harley". Tough decision.:)

I have been in the motorcycle biz. since 1990, and have over 30 years riding. The VTX is a good bike it does everything OK. But I would look at the KAW. Mean Streak or The Yamaha Warrior. I only sell Yamaha now but work on everything and I will be riding a Yamaha this summer. If you want to call me for info my # is 703 362 8011 my name is Greg.

The Warrior is a cool bike it's got upside down forks, big brakes, 200 rear tire, it's a cruiser that handles. They dont have a ton of power stock but wake up good with little cash. I want one so I wont kill myself on my 03 GSXR 1000.

Mr. Demeanor 03-11-2004 11:02 PM

Since the bike guys are gathered here, take a look at this:

First a little background on Ghostrider. Nobody is sure who he is. His videos are the wildest street motorcycle insanity you can imagine.

Chuck 03-13-2004 08:17 AM

Shane, let me know if you pull the trigger!!! I ordered a new Fatboy last year. The bike is suppose to be in in a couple of weeks. Pearl white with fuel injection. I must admit though I am nervous, I have always lectured my friends also about the two types of riders. And attending Byron's service today wont help much with those thoughts. I will probably see you later today.

mcollinstn 03-13-2004 10:54 AM

link not working.

lapse,
I had an 02 warrior last year I took on trade. Owner bought it and brought it to us to install every billet and chrome accessory available, we sent his wheels out and got them chromed, and it got VH pipes and we tweaked out the lean pop with the stock computer. He put a lowering kit on it. When he finished it, the wife didn't like it so he traded it to us for a Fat Boy we had. I took the Warrior and rode it for a week.

I'm not a cruiser sort of guy but i liked the Warrior. Good brakes, stiff chassis, solid front forks. Strong motor. If I had kept it the lowering kit would have to go cause it dragged very easily in corners.

The Warrior was a cool bike, and with the chrome wheels and other parts it was as killer cool as bikes an easy 10 grand more expensive. We sold that one for $10,800 with less than 1000 miles on it to give you an idea of what you can buy one for (this one had over $14k in receipts).

Mr. Demeanor 03-13-2004 05:51 PM

Fixed.
PS. Velocity Racing has a turbo kit for the VTX :D

mcollinstn 03-13-2004 08:40 PM

180mph (290kph indicated) no-yank power wheelies ???

even with the common 10% speedo error plus another 10% for the usual "one tooth drop" on the countershaft (of the chase bike), that is STILL a 146mph THROTTLE ONLY power wheelie...

That's ungodly.

Mr. Demeanor 03-13-2004 09:43 PM

500hp on a short wheelbase will do that. The fact that the guy rides it like that is amazing.
