I would make the demo maybe a poker run event, the weekend fun mode. if you have race money saved up it can pay for the entry fee, i don't know just idea.

and don't make any cheat codes for the game.

may be possible to set up like need for speed underground with online multi-players, can race each other.

There is already a coin operated game for offshore racing. Played it in the Beer Barrel at Put in Bay Ohio. Of course we won, Pat and I took on all comers.........

It is sit down one on one, I think they have it for PS, Nintendo, etc.

Hydro Thunder is a joke. Just your typical race car game where you can bounce off walls and what not, but on the water.

What they are talking about would only work on a home gaming system since the time commitment would be much great than a coin op game.

FunHome 03-12-2004 05:32 PM

I agree Hydro Thunder is very laim!! That is what I ment by no stupid jumps!! Then there is another game called Bloodwake and it's the one with Guns....it's laim to!! Like they said you can bounce off walls, icebergs, etc.

Well wait a second, back when I raced with Gordo I think we bounced off a couple of other race boats.... Yep I think it was at St. Pete during the worlds to be exact!!:D

bouyhunter 03-13-2004 06:01 AM

I have been wanting a game like this for years - I thought about doing it myself, but you are way ahead of me. I'm willing to help out in any way. I don't have any game system, but I would buy one just for this. I used to have the nascar game - with steering wheel and foot pedals - and always wished it could be a boat with throttles.

If I can help - let me know

RollWithIt 03-13-2004 10:12 AM

Have a steering wheel and shifter with throttle controls that can clamp onto the edge of a coffee table or other types of tables. Maybe we could get sponsorship by Gaffrig or Keikofer, use their controls or a mock up at least with their name on the equipment. Also, put the trim tab on the base unit with the throttles. All the regular buttons can be mounted on the base with the wheel. Start, menu, etc..

I'm working on the tree of options now as we speak. I will do everything possible to make this dream come true. I believe that a high quality game like this could make winters easier to deal with around here. I have a Microsoft Excel file that I'm putting together some options. If anyone wants to look at it or even edit it, e-mail me at: [email protected] I will be happy to send it to you. Then you can add to it and send it back. I will merge the files.

Tom A. 03-14-2004 09:14 PM

I am in!!!!! Authentic like the NASCAR or GTA games.... I like the Idea of a fun poker run mode. How about having a couple old school endurance runs using the old teams and boats?

How about a follow up game Offshore2 Where you build up a race team and then start building a few boats of your own becoming the next Don Aronow.....well let's get the first one in production.

Like the idea of limited classes:
F1, F2, V, SuperV, Cat, Supercat, maybe adding an outlaw P class that could include The 160+ V's of Fountain and Outerlimits or turbines.

robyw1 03-14-2004 11:33 PM

Thanks for all the great ideas, keep-em coming

DyD 04-08-2004 04:11 PM

any update news??

robyw1 04-12-2004 11:29 AM

Yes unfortunately I have found that by using a PS2 or X-BOX that the game will be severely limited on overall variety of boats, engines and tune ability. The only way to get this to fit in such a format would be to degrade the video and sound quality. I just don't have the room to create the game that would satisfy me and most importantly the OSO group. However all is not lost.

I can have it all if the game is made in PC format. Of course it would take a hell of a PC to play this but at least everything we ever wanted would be there; PLUS the option of using other controllers such as a joystick or wheel. I'm now looking into this.

No problem...Look at what MS Flight Simulator has evolved into. It's incredible in detail and fluidity.

I'm sure the same can be accomplished for this.

There would have to be a bunch of options on scenery detail level and scenery population(like MSFS) so that most any modern PC can run it.

The best part of PC games...play them at work! :D :D

RollWithIt 04-12-2004 11:45 AM

True, the PC version would definately open up more options and allow you to get more realism added into the graphics and sound. Besides, I do believe we all own a computer around here anyways. ;)

ChrisK 04-12-2004 12:56 PM

You own a computer? :D

Kanookstr 04-12-2004 02:32 PM

Yes P.C. is the way to go... If I have too I'll buy one:D

26scarab 04-12-2004 02:46 PM

I disagree with the PC only game.
We should take a look at what can be done to keep it on a gaming plateform. Yes we all want as much realism as possible BUT sometimes it can be too much. I myself do not play PC games for this reason.
If I have a hour or two to play I just want to pop in a game and play it. Those PC game just have too much stuff , expecially the flight simulators.
We all agree Grand Turismo was a fun and somewhat realistic game , can't we keep the Offshore game somewhat along those lines ?

Wasabe 04-12-2004 02:47 PM

I want X box version PC all you get is a bunch of geeks. The cool people play x box :D :D :D

Sydwayz 04-12-2004 02:57 PM

Would it be just too much of an undertaking to have a full blown PC game, and scaled back XBOX-PS/2 version? For those of us REALLY into it, you can do the whole SIMS thing like the team, and building money and etc.

Look what OSO has done for this sport in General. What if you could get a corporate name on top of it? What about OffshoreOnly Grand Prix?

OR

We can call the abridged game console version Offshore Grand Prix/Lee Mills Style.

DOH!! :D :D :D

robyw1 04-12-2004 03:18 PM

The problem is with very intensive graphics and sound. When you have those in the console game you need to give up a lot elsewhere. Or if you want a large variety of boats, engines & equipment then you will give up graphics that would make them enjoyable. You see if I were to put in Outerlimits then the Fountain and Apache guys would be left out and in turn might not buy. Same with CATS. You have to strike a happy medium and in this VAST world of boating manufactures too many would be left out and the graphics would suffer accordingly. My goal for this game is to make it good enough to where OSOers and other performance boaters can't live without it. I want it to be more addicting than cigarettes and for it to be a valid excuse for missing work in order to get their fix. :D The key to successes will be laying awake at night trying to figure out how to get that 1 extra horsepower. The perimeters for a PC game are virtually limitless in this format and it will also be easier and cheaper to create in this format. That is my 2 cents worth. Not to mention that it is easier to play online and boats, engines & equipment can be sold or traded between players.

Roby

CigDaze 04-12-2004 04:20 PM

If game systems are so great, why do games have to be scaled down... :p ...j/k

PC all the way. :D :D :D

Ron P 04-12-2004 04:50 PM

Go with the PC version!!!!!! Just get it done!!

It's just as easy to do on Xbox and PS2.

26scarab 04-13-2004 09:18 AM

I've just always had bad luck with PC games.

My computer skills are pretty much just emailing things and everytime I tried to install a PC game I just had problems.
Right now console systems are the rage , that is where the money will be not the PC game.
But if it is made in a PC format I'm sure i will buy one:)

Here is my take on this... PC gamers tend to be hard core gamer types who are not really into boating. They want the games to do ALL sorts of things. I am definatly not a PC gamer. When you are you generally need some large PC that has a graphics accelerator and all sorts of things associated with it. I do own a PS2 though. I have like 3 games for it. I dont play it a whole lot I know this thats why I like the types of games that I could play for a few days, then walk away from for weeks and months at a time without having to take notes as to where I "left off" in the game.

I think you possibly COULD come up with 2-3 V hulls and 2 cat hulls to run, still have some nice options to play with on the boats with engine, props, drives, etc and still have decent graphics. I don think there is ANY way you can get ALL the manufactures in the game.

Overall I think the game consaul systems would be a better way to get to a larger target audience. The whole reason to develop the game is to sell it, and if your target audience is larger for the consaul systems then thats what I would go for.

Just my .02.. take it however ya want.

26scarab 04-13-2004 04:24 PM

Chris K,
Well put and I completly agree with you.

39NAS-T 04-13-2004 07:33 PM

I would also buy a few games. That sounds great. I have only read one of the three pages do you need investors for the idea.
Hunter

BigJake 04-13-2004 10:52 PM

You should add some type of Poker run mode where you gamble against other boats.
