Kicker Marine Subwoofers
#11
There is nothing different about marine grade speakers other than cosmetics (white grills). They still have a voice coil that is susceptible to moisture. Currently, they are all made with polypropylene cones.
And yes "sealed" is always better, and worth the extra time. In my last boat, I had four Kicker 10s built in two sealed enclosures that I incorporated in to my bench seat. 2800 watts total on the whole system.
About JL Audio. I agree with bford...They are better and I'll run them in my car but I just can't warrant the extra money in a boat where installation is the key to a good sound system. I will be running JL amps in my new boat as I did in my last boat with no problems. They are very powerful, reliable and efficient. That is worth the extra money... Everything else is Kicker this year. Not even my deck is marine grade.
Just my .02 Cents, and I was a professional installer for 15 years.

We have found you pay more and get less with Marine Grade Speakers. We use the Kicker Solo Barick and they sound incredible!

as for the grills I sanded my own down and primed and painted them then clear coated them, My sealed enclosers custom built to fit under my bolsters and I carpeted them with Purple covering from walmart, exact color as my lay in carpet so you don't even see them, And yes with sealed enclosure no moisture should even get in it
Also if you are looking for a great sounding inexpensive speaker that is weather proof check these out, I just instaled a pair in my Fountain and they sound great,
