was thinking about switching to "Carbon Fiber Dave" :D :D . just got done building some new dashes for Chris's BatBoats and i thought i would play around with some carbon fiber. i did the face of this one in a 2X2 twill weave (its the cool look'in stuff). might try to do the whole surface in carbon next   fun fun fun.

wonder if i could do a whole boat like this :D :D

corrado- what kind of boat do you need a dash for? these are made specific for the BatBoats so i'm not sure they would fit others. i do other customs though

Jim that should be cool. now if we can just get ya to put some graphics on the big ol' school buss :D

are they using a hybrid carbon/kevlar or carbon/tracer heres a pic of the hybrid. this stuff ruined my scisors in about 6 inches

madcow- no prob, i'll swap ya for some stainless risers or somthin. oh . . do you still have that vac pump. :D :D

Audiofn 03-15-2004 07:48 AM

Dave looks great.

open87 03-15-2004 07:58 AM

neither

open87 03-15-2004 07:59 AM

do

open87 03-15-2004 07:59 AM

i :D :D :p

Cord 03-15-2004 08:24 AM

When you want a clear resin, what do you use?

glassdave 03-15-2004 09:11 AM

cord- i use Clear Silmar 249 from U.S. Composites in the laminate and just a clear gel coat for the "window". since i'm using the carbon fiber for the apearance its not really necessary to do the layup in an epoxy. the weave in the carbon is very sensitive and has to be handled very carefully. cool stuff to work with, i can see myself using alot of it in the future

Cord 03-15-2004 09:38 AM

Thanks for the help.

Audiofn 03-15-2004 09:52 AM

Cord West System is also clear

Jon

Cord 03-15-2004 11:01 AM

I though west system was just a brand name....

Dude when I put TWO stripes on it I thought it was a little much :D

The cloth we're using only about 10% yellow.

BTW Use the word EPOXY ( or at least imply you use it) whenever you can cause suddenly if it ain't "epoxy" it can't be any good  Hell that dash panel will never live unless it's laid up and baked :D :D I was just enlightened by a guy who builds E P O X Y boats ;)

glassdave 03-15-2004 01:09 PM

aint that the truth   been using polyester for years but NOW all of a suden its junk. :D :D

yea . . those two stripes are pretty wild. :D :D i did a layout of your boat on my drawing table one night i was board. i used the Japanese Kanji script characters for the words "wicked one" and swept it down the side of the boat. kinda cool. i'll hafta show it to you some time. ya know . . funny thing is. i'm getting ready to paint my scorpion and i'm going with all white. no graphics. . . well . . .maybe two stripes or so :D

who enlightened you on the epoxy? . . an OuterLimits guy? :D :p

glassdave 03-15-2004 10:22 PM

oh . . by the way Chris. it went out U.P.S monday so it should be there in a day or so.
