Pro's and Con's on 1996 33ft Formula

Same old Story....I got a friend looking at the possibility of moving up from his 28ft Donzi (single 502) to a 1996 33ft Formula SR1 (twin 502)??

How do these measure up?? Anything to watch out for??

remind him of the current gas prices and then think of how much easier it is to feed one 502

I ran around with a guy a few years ago who had one. He liked it a lot. Formula guys, corect me if I'm wrong, but its just an old 311 with a swim platform. Those where good boats, and I've never really heard much bad about Formula.

Thanks Guys!!:)

I believe the 336 won Powerboat Magazine's "boat of the year" or whatever award they give out. It is an excellent boat and Formula is one of the absolute best boat builders out there. I have an 89' 311-SR1 and it doesn't have a single rattle. They are not the fastest boats out there due to size and weight, but they really shine in the rough stuff. Formula's quality goes without saying. Their customer support is incredible. They hold their value extremely well. Big big difference between your friends 28 Donzi and that 336.

If you take care of them, the gelcoat will look like this after 18 years!:D I've had three Formulas and loved them all.

The shine on that hull is coming directly off that grin.

formula had one of the best gelcoat graphics schemes and quality too...I kinda miss that stuff...surprised that "everybody" went to Imron...thought some would have kept gelcoat graphics

336 is the replacement for the 311.
336 has slightly higher ceiling in the cabin. Has optional electric footrests and electric bolsters versus the fixed footrests on the 311 and the manual/hydraulic bolsters on the 311. Swim platform is molded in, not bolted on, but is higher out of the water and the Silent Thunder on that platform is louder.

Dash is redone.

At best, the same speed as a 311 with similar power, at worst, one or two mph slower.

A good friend had a '88 311 with 454's, a '90 311 with 502's, and a '93 336 with 525sc's. My '91 311 was faster than either of his 311's, but the 336 with small blower pulleys ran 84.

I honestly like a lot of stuff about the 311 better, but I'm sure I'm biased.
