You guys are right in my back yard. This sounds like an awesome opportunity for everyone involved. Just curious if there will be any job opportunities? Maybe you might have a use for a guy with 25 years of boating experience and a business degree from Purdue University. [email protected]

The 53' could use a set of 660 Cats and it would perform well. Of course a set of 800 Man's would perform even better. Probably not enough room for anything larger that the 800’s.
The Quad gas engines and Bravos seems like an accident before it has had a chance happened. A lot of strain for that little of a drive unit, wonder of Merc will back the warranty…

As far as the 53' Ultima is concerned, with a 14' beam, bigger than 800hp. can go in there. It would be interesting to see whether the D2842-series MANs could fit. In their latest version, LE409, they produce 1500hp. Seateks would be great in a triple configuration. Keep in mind that Ultima's dimensions are roughly equivalent to those of a Magnum Bestia. One of those was powered by twin CAT 3412E motors (1350hp then, 1420hp. now) and one of those was even powered by twin MTU 2000-series V12s producing 1500hp each. Top speed on the CAT-powered boat I'm familiar with is 65 knots or close to 75 mph. Knowing that a new version of 2000-series MTUs is about to come out (CR model), producing 2000hp, is food for thought. Other engines could be great for this boat as well. Isotta Fraschini make (relatively) lightweight V12 diesels producing 1250hp and CRM make V12 and W18 diesels producing over 2000hp.
In other words, when you get into this kind of dimension, a whole new world opens up in front of you. A world where you really have endless power options and the best part is, they're all good and reliable. I just wish Seatek eventually get to producing that V12 that's been in their plans for ages. Prototypes have been made and bench-tested at over 1600hp for not much over 3000lbs. but lack of funding means the whole thing is shelved for now. Shame...

I agree on the big diesel with the consensus we have had several discussions concerning diesel power and drive options. Weismann Drives or surface drives are definitely at the top of the list.

So, am I right in thinking that unless the boat is going to have a super-low profile deck or is planned with a cockpit for 40 people, big diesels like MAN D2842, CAT 3412 or MTU 2000-series could fit?
At this point, if you're planning to offer gas I/O options as well as big diesel power with the same set of tooling and a standard transom, Arneson is the obvious choice, probably ASD 14.
Weismann OR surface drives? Pat will tell you that WSD IS a surface drive. But I see what you mean, probably outdrive vs. shaft drive.
I hate to bombard everybody with my banter about Trimax but I would love to see what they do on the Ultima, with ZF 195-series 2-speed trannies. A scary machine for something like Miami-New York...
