OPC Super Sport Class
 

Does anyone know what kind of $$$ and resources it takes to get into and maintain a boat for Super Sport racing (150hp stock outboards) ???

I race in the Super Sport class. It is tight, exciting, deck to deck racing EVERY time out. I enjoy Offshore which takes up most of my available time. But when I get the chance I really get a kick out of racing Super Sport

To answer your question. The motors are stock warranteed 150 hp motors. So once you own one you are good for the length of the warranty. There are several builders building new boats which I believe are $6500-$10,000. The motors are $10,000 or so.

I bought a 91' Mod VP STV hull and added a close out Mercury to it. It's very competitive. My investment could have been $16,000.00. I went a little overboard on the redo.

I would strongly recommend you call Danny Mc Manus. The class is his project and he is a wealth of information 352 357 2411. Danny will be driving my boat at Crescent City this weekend. I am taking my son to Ski for Spring Break.

It's a very professional group of guys racing in the class. And they definitely know how to have fun. They would fit in nicely with my party monger brothers at SBI.

You mean the manufacturers actually honor the factory warranty even though the motors are used for racing ?

Well......my experience has been. What they don't know won't hurt them (motor manufacturers).

But you are running the motor within their guidelines. The rules do not allow for modifications. The edge is in set up, props and seat time.

I just spent a day of testing with Throttle Up Propellers. They are the best. SQ

Can't add much to what has already been said other than it is a great class to be involved in for a number of reasons but maybe the best is that they are "stock" motors.
Meaning, your not going to have your ass handed to you by somebody that out "spent" you. That is very rare in the racing world.
The guys in Fla are the biggest into the class and I plan to look at it when I get down there.
Also, I don't think the old Seebold would be legal.

The Seebold would be too light. The minimum weight is 1250 with driver. Do yourself a favor and check the class out. SQ
