Tail gate cable for 1999 Chevy 1/2 Ton P/U
I keep beaking the tail gate cables on my truck. I KNOW I KNOW I should lose weight, but that just ain't gonna happen.:p Does anyone know if I can buy these items after market at an auto parts store?
If so, which store (i.e. chains) and how much? Thanks, Shane |
I bought one at Auto Zone for my 1993....

That would have been my first choice. If not them try NAPA. All else fails the dealer will have them
|
The dealer is expensive though. And the way they keep breaking....thanks again guys.;)
|
Let me know. I run a body shop during the week and can get parts at considerable discounts.
|
Shane where do they break,, Depending on where, I may be able to modify them for you.. let me know..
|
There's a recall that's been issued recently for this- saw it on the news sat or sun.
|
Depending the serial number for your truck they will be either $8.00 or $11.00 a piece.
|
Man shane.. You must be a big ole boy :D I put my new ones on before winter. All winter Long beating the tailgate with the sled, jumpin on the gate ect.. And they are stil are like brand new :p
i paid like $8 at the dealer :) |
My wife heard about the recall as well. I checked with a dealer and they knew nothing about them. I will check again. 43Thunder, thanks man. That is nice of you. I will let you know when I find out more.
|
I just contacted the Chevrolet customer support number and the recall notificatin will be forthcoming! Once again the power of OSO comes through.
|
I was going to mention the recall, but since someone already did that... yeah, you should consider a diet. :D
|
The recall notifications will begin to go out in JUNE! HOLY CRAPOLA! Your dealer likely doesn't know about it yet unless he or she was watching the news as they have not been told as of yet.
DIET??? NAH! I would feel badly cuz then ALL the chicks would flock to me instead of you guys!:p :p    |
Shane, the easiest thing to do (and smartest) would be to trade it in on a Ford.......

Shane,
Don't spend a dime on this. The dealership should have recall notices. In fact if you have receipts you will be reimbursed.
Wannabe |
wannabe,
Gotcha. I am going to fix it AGAIN and save the receipt. Won't get re-imbursed till June. |
Shane..
Give me the last 8 of your vin# and I will run it for you and see if your truck is eligible.. Bob Ps ford and dodge have the same issue ! trick put a dab of rtv in the end of the cable where it is exposed. |
