what gives

Do you people here on oso feel it is OK to wear i cigarette shirt to school? the school officials cant seem to make the difference between a boat racing company and tobacco products and the dress code has no statement that you " can't support offshore powerboats" so i don't see what the dig deal is

BLee 03-25-2004 02:51 PM

If you really want to pursue it, all you have to do is contact a local news organization.

They eat schools for breakfast over their ridiculous and loose rules.

For instance: CNN, Fox, etc always have a story about a child being sent home, suspended, even expelled for a shirt or other article of clothing that an opinionated faculty member didn't like.

I would be pretty funny. :D

Don't worry about it kid, you need to get back to learning basic grammer!:D

Give them hell kid!;)

robyw1 03-25-2004 03:13 PM

All it has to say is Cigarette and the news media will turn on you whether it is a boat or a tobacco company. I think this is a losing proposition.

Roby

PorscheSpeed 03-25-2004 03:14 PM

thats a typo:p

oh and i have, they just dont get it:rolleyes:

dockrocker 03-25-2004 03:15 PM

Oh, I'd go after the school 100% - the local newspapers, TV stations, Fox News, you name it I'd be on the phone.

Exposing stupid people is great fun but it can be a full time job...

PorscheSpeed 03-25-2004 03:26 PM

I'm with you dockrocker. everyone just gives into the school and never fights back. I'm getting sick of it. why should they tell me if i cant wear something they have no knowledge about the subject.

HyperBaja 03-25-2004 03:31 PM

Dosent rule out religios effects. Put a towel on your head.

dockrocker 03-25-2004 03:31 PM

Yep, like others have said, you should contact the local news - they LOVE to show public officials that have their head up their ass. Fox News might run with it as well, try the "Tongue-Tied" feature on their website. You might want to try Bill O'Reilly as well - ya never know until you try.

I'd have the true history of the name available as well, so you can really make a good case for yourself.

dockrocker 03-25-2004 03:32 PM

Here's the story on the name, from the Cig web site:

Yeah, I have to learn about organisms that are impossible to see with a microscope, and are still theoretical. Why I ask? Because no one can prove otherwise. Well, I have a theory, the principal is fat, and you cant prove otherwise, so why dont we learn about that?

Great idea...and while they're at it, bring back the mean principals, old bag english teachers that would rap your knuckles when you dared to get out of line, and all the other hard line disclipine techniques that made school a place of learning so we can compete with the world again (I guess I'm really dating myself). Get rid of the lawyers stopped that stuff too.

dhlaw 03-25-2004 04:25 PM

What state are you in???? I'll take your case!! All the way to the supreme court if I have to in order to defend the Cigarette name from these knuckleheads......

PorscheSpeed 03-25-2004 05:37 PM

d-hlaw- come on up to lovely Ohio! were experiencing a bit of warmth this week, you'd never know the difference

MitchStellin 03-25-2004 06:03 PM

Oh, I fought the School, Me and 12 other guys fought with the busses long enough to get the next day off:D Then we wrote our opinion of the principal all over the school. We were caught because some jerk caved, we didn't get to walk in Graduation, but still Graduated, we had to do 100 hours work detail, I drove a truck that I got stuck on the Football field with and by the time I was done 2nd gear was gone:D I wore a Gerry t shirt (you remember the hiking clothing Co?) It said "Built Damn Tough" I was told to go home and change it so I just walked out the door and 10 miles home:D It was better than class:D I was so bad in High School but I got it out of my system, graduated from College, and now I TRY and give teachers loans to buy homes but their credit sucks and they are dumb as a board. I knew I shouldn't be listening to them in School, and I was right.:D

Seriously, while I understand your frustration, your time and efforts should be directed toward more important matters and your preparation for the real world....spelling comes to mind;)

ragtop409 03-25-2004 08:48 PM

PorscheSpeed

Sadly in the rules you posted they include "advertising"..

Some school official will claim you are a walking billboard:( :(

But.. At the same time, don't sweat the small stuff and concentrate on a 4.0 grade average...

OL40SVX 03-25-2004 10:02 PM

i wear my cigarette and other boat manufactures shirts to school all the time and the teachers and principals dont notice or care.

Don't kid yourself. We send our girls to private school. We spend a small fortune on uniforms. Everything has to be purchased through one uniform company. I am sure the school gets a kick back from them also. But that's the price you have to pay I guess. At lest they are getting a good education and English isn't the second language.

yes but, with that logic any student wearing a Abercrombie and Fitch shirt or Old Navy shirt would be advertising the clothing company so in that case our whole school should be in the office.

and as for the grade average, i have a 3.8 close enough:rolleyes:

HyperBaja 03-26-2004 04:09 PM

Nigel, I got kicked out of the school "media center" today.

Three rules I violated
1. Writing a paper for english (reason I was there)
2. Using the internet to find info for it
3. Calling the "media center" a library.

PorscheSpeed 03-26-2004 04:23 PM

dam tommy

well going to north union, we don't have a "media center" we have the worlds smallest library , and a room with 12 computers each running on windows 95. If the state didn't have grant money we wouldn't even attend school because the would be no school

IDRPSTF 03-26-2004 04:23 PM

Stay in school,
Dont talk back to your parents,
Bayliners dont count,
Wear condoms,
Dont eat yellow snow,
Reading is good!

You will be just fine kid!

IDRPSTF 03-26-2004 04:45 PM

Great, now people are going to think I actually wrote that!
I can see it now. some parent comes up to me at the next poker run, "My son left school, gets drunk and yells at me, wont go on the family boat with his aunt Gertrude, got his girlfriend pregnant, spends all his time peeing on the snow and reading porn...and its all your fault".

Thanks Travis, I will send them your way.
I say school beats the hell out of work (you just don't realize it until you did so bad in school that you have to work harder).
Respecting Elders and being respected, beats getting treated like a smart a$$ problem child (You get away with more in the long run).
Bayliners have a place in this world. (In the 909).
Sheath it!!! or risk it falling off!
Yellow snow is just bad!
and if you cant read...you don't know where to post on OSO!

IDRPSTF- Saving the youth of today! someday you will look back and say "he was a profit!"
