how do you go to jail for selling boats to smugglers?
Its a really fascinating story. The short version is the managing partner accepted $100,000 investment into Midnight Express that was made with known drug money by a major known drug smuggler. But everyone knows that; Its literally the reason Midnight Express ever became a company.

The company was actually building under deck compartments to stash the drugs for their drug running clients. As part of the corporate plea deal with the Dept of Justice, all boats in production were seized and turned over to the U.S. Customs Service where many were used in the Caribbean. The boats were all 37' Midnights with quad 200hp outboards and mega fuel capacity. Great rough water boats but slow. Customs took very good care of the boats as they got older by refurbishing (new stringers, decking and transoms) at their St Augustine facility. Many of the existing 37's are former Customs boats.
