O/T Power Chips for 6.0 PSD

I'm looking for a performance chip to put in a 6.0l Ford PSD. Which one's the best, what are the pro's and cons??

Thanks for any help

The Edge with Attitude monitor works extremely well. The built in safeguards are very nice and you can set up the module to your liking. Jassman has the Edge, I am sure he will chime in here. Sam

Jassman 03-29-2004 03:28 PM

Check out WWW.Edgeproducts.com . PMT is an OSO sponsor and sells them as well. It works awesome, especially with the Attitude which has a built in gauge package, all adjustable on the fly, 40, 60, 80, 100, and 115hp which is really 127hp and up to 290torque. The only problem is on level 4 and 5 should only be used on highway, it overpowers the tranny, especially from a stop sign. Im very pleased and also have them on both my Duramaxes, one has over 190,000 miles. Call me if you have Q's, otherwise get it and you will be pleased. I turned a 13.989 in a 4wd dually, w/turbo back dual exhaust and an AFR proguard 7 filter set up. Enjoy, Jeff 228-216-0900.

Gail Banks just came out with one and it seems to be good. Some guys have problems with the edge when the trans shifts. go to www.fordtrucks.com under 6.0 and do a search. There are a few out now.

Semper Fi 03-29-2004 06:14 PM

PM "Boot" here on OSO. He is very knowledgeable.

Jassman 03-29-2004 08:05 PM

No matter which module you get, after 80hp they all shift like crap. The trans when towing or loaded when in anything over 80 hp shifts great, so to me its a pressure line situation, some after market tuners for the tranny fix have been working on this for months. So if put in level 4 and 5, and you are into smokin tires all the time, all the way down the street, its best to leave in level 3, like I do, and use 4 and 5 on the highway, when some Mustang wants to run with you, you will get him every time, up to the speed limiter of 97. What you want is tech support, the best co out there is Edge period, you call the shop and talk to three people, AAron the owner, matt or Justin, all three of these guys will go out of their way to make it right if you have problems. 1-801-476-3343, toll free number. good luck, Jeff

All the above products are good products. Nothing bad to say about any of them.

The Diablo Predator Programmer does NOT have any shifting problems in the 100hp mode. Mine shift perfectly with no hesitation.

would a Banks transcommand help out with the shifting? forgive me jumping in, I'm new to the diesel world, today actually.

I would look seriously at the Predator

Theuy have different settings.

For towing you want to keep EGT lower and lower firmness on the shifts.

I haven't tried the predator yet even though I sell them ... MOst programmers don't work well ,and loose their power over time . Maybe not on this one ,I don't know . Other then that , The ONLY one that works is the Edge box . The newer ones don't have shifting problems . You have to get the right one and there is a trick to instaling it too.

NO , the Banks trans comand doesn't work very good on anything ! Neither do their chips .... ( I sell them too ) . Joe

Thanks for all the input:)

Not to jump as well, but BOOT have you tested the 6pack from banks with the extra juice in it yet? Just curios s to compaired to the edge with attitude. Looking to get a chip but don't know which way to run yet. Also looked at bullydog as well. Your opinions are welcome.

Neverfastenuf 03-30-2004 04:30 PM

The Banks 6 Pack will not run with the Edge + Attitude. We found out in a couple different tests. The Banks is very nice but way too "safe" for most. Sam

Jassman 03-30-2004 04:37 PM

I have 2 friends with Bullydog, and 1 with Quadzilla modules. They both have 3500 CC, mine is a dually. The Bullydog and Quad look similiar , but the Quad is quicker. The Bullydog has broken down numerous times, no tech or dealer support. We race from a standstill and on highway, I walk them both on stage 3 and then switching to stage 5 once rolling, I actually blow them away and out pull them. The deisel site says that the Predator does shift good, but a couple of guys state that it still has some problems. No matter which module, chip, or programmer you buy, the Ford Trans has a problem with it. So keep it in the lower hp levels, so as not to upset the clutches in the tranny, and use the power wisely, good luck. I have almost 15k miles on this Edge/Attitude, and I dont abuse it, it really helps to pull my 10-14k trailers on a daily basis, Thanks Jeff

Friend of mine has a 6.0

He says power is fine, but wants better fuel economy. He put me in charge of finding a good box to use. I told him I refuse to be in charge of finding more fuel economy, and told him to go with the Edge or Western Diesel box.

He's still harping about fuel mileage. Anybody got a proven way to increase mpg?

We have found that when the trucks are "bombed", the customers drive them harder and only retain moderate fuel mileage. The fun factor of an 8000lb truck that will run like a lot of sports cars can be a little addicting. We never proclaim to be able to increase fuel economy, just performance. And the performance edge usually outweighs the economy factor.

As far as increasing fuel economy???? Drivers habits dictate the economy, and with a performnce enhacement, if driven very moderately, one can expect an increase in mileage. Sam

Kind of off subject but I met a new Dodge diesel at a stop light the other night. He had a manual tranny agains my 99PSD with only a Hypertech chip and a auto tranny. Didnt know we were competeing until he left on me :( but I ran him down. Pretty even with my truck gaining slowly until 3rd gear when I blew by. Must be real tall gearing in that thing. Actually with the manual tranny I thought he might outrun me. I had about 800 pounds of people and a have a fiberglass cap.

Jassman: I am running a gmc duramax and really appreciate all the real world input on here.

neverfastenuf, Thank you as well, just trying to decide which one to run kinda like outdrives and motors for a boat, and reading all the real world stuff here is making me lean in one direction closer.

Also a note sorry for thread stepping again as well

Ordered my edge and attitude today because of Jassman.

Thanks, really looking forward to installing this product.

What about all the warranty issues???????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

Jassman 03-30-2004 09:10 PM

Thanks Guys, all I can say is I have three of them, 2 on Duramax's and one on my personal 04 Ford 6.0 dually. The one Duramax gets driven by about 8 people, its the 90hp unit and is left in the middle mode, and is truely abused, and Im being polite about it. The other Duramax has around 80k and is driven to pull trailers most of the time, its the 125hp unit, I had a few problems with this unit, called Edge, talked with Aaron, (the Owner)send me a brand new unit after I put about 70k miles on it, great service. The 6.0 unit has been upgraded 4 times now, they keep improving it, you go to their website, fill out a form, send it in, at the same time they will mail a revised one back, couldnt be any easier. Sometime you have to wait on the phone for about 3 to 4 minutes, but in the end its worth it, it makes your truck that much more enjoyable, Have fun with your modules, Thanks again Jeff.:D

Nort, if you install an Edge or any other performance enhancing device, the dealer "CAN" void your warranty if a malfunction can be even remotely related to such device. It is as simple as that and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. The imperative word there being CAN. If you have a good working relationship with the service department you can get warranty. There are many service departments that see no problem, some do. Just make sure to be to keep the lines of communication open and you should not have any trouble. That being said, I have run enhancements on every single diesel truck I have owned, 13 in all, and have only been denied warranty once. Sam

eyezlee 03-30-2004 09:31 PM

What is the cost for the edge attitude setup?

Scott 03-30-2004 09:48 PM

My 6.0L has 5K miles and when I was in for the oil change I asked about chips. They told me the exact same thing they said about my 99 7.3. "No problem we sell them"
Like mentioned above make sure you keep a honest line of communication open with your dealer.

boot 04-01-2004 10:26 PM

Hard on, No I haven't run the new banks yet . I ordered one yesterday to try our truck . I have not been impressed by ANYTHING I have gotten from banks . And neither have my customers .....

Edge is the ONLY one that works on 6.0 Fords . Bulley dog DOES NOT !!! All the large distributers have quit bulley dog on all their plug in modules for Chevy ,Dodge ,and Ford 6.0's . One company odered 500 units and the first 163 got sent back the first week cause they didn't work . They have since sent back the entire shipment !! Another guy I know ordered over 300 and also had like 60 something bad !! Sent them all back . I have bought 13 things from Bulley and all 13 were bad ! That was enough for me !!!

mcollinstn, Fuel economy is not easy to come by on the 6.0 . Make sure he has the latest reflash availible from Ford . One of my customers gained over 2mpg after the reflash . You could gain a little with the RIGHT exhaust , airfilter , and edge box. Maybe 1 or 1-1/2 if you are lucky . But as Neverfastenuf said , the power is what it's about . If you can move the same load ,faster, and not burn more fuel doing it ,then in reality you HAVE GAINED mileage .
Good example , 1997 ,7.3 ford with Wetsern diesel chip Will gain mileage . Customer calls me and says "I didn't notice any gain . I burned the same exact amount in the trip I do every weekend . " Of course he forgot the fact that normaly he can only run 60-65 mph pulling 2 snow mobiles on a little open trailer . Now he is running 80-90 mph pulling 4 sleds in an enclosed trailer !!! I would say HE GAINED GREAT MILEAGE !!! He thinks so too ,now that I pointed that out ! :D
My old 2002 Ford with ram air , 4" exhaust , and Western's "tri power chip " Set on 85 (REAL) horse power , got me there much faster and also gained 2.5 mpg !!
 This is not the case for all trucks or drivers , bu twith the " RIGHT " package on your truck you CAN gain mileage...

Mr. Demeanor, Thats a great story ! If that was a newer Dodge , He was new at driving it !:D That "NEW" Stock Dodge would give your 99 with the hypertech a pretty good run for your money ! The auto in yours has better torque aplification and keeps the motor wound tight all the way up the street untill about 60-65 mph ,where as he lets out for a split second to shift and looses boost and falls on it's face for a minute . Out of the whole auto's usualy rule . Top end the stick will run away . Also taller gears (3.73 or 3.55's ) will get it going faster on a diesel then say 4.10's . A normal drag from light to light , an auto trans usualy is faster (apples to apples). However , hook um up to 10,000 lbs and run over the mountains at highway speeds and the manual trans will walk away quite quickly !

Warranty ,shmarranty !!!!:p Unplug it and take it back for service . I can get a list of a couple hundred Ford dealers alone that install chips of everykind . I was at Dodge yesterday and asked the service guy , "What is your standing on the performance upgrades "? He says , "As long as you buy it from US , (DODGE) We could care less " !! One of my customers and fellow OSOer said he asked his Ford dealer what he thought of trucks with chips and the dealer told him ," I THINK ANYONE THAT DOES NOT HAVE ONE IS AN IDIOT !!! :D :D

I wish I could get THAT in righting !!

BAck to the whole point of this :
6.0 Ford = Edge ! ;)
