Jeesh,
Those tubes werent being pulled any faster than 35 ish.
We used to tube in the mid 60mph zone twenty five years ago. Those kids on the vid are wusses. They can't hold on.
We'd flip upside down and barrel roll and still would be hanging on with the tube riding on top of our bodies. We made our own special handles and bridles for the truck tubes we used. Made our own gloves, too, with metal in the palm for hanging on with.
We wore vinyl foam Connelly or Cypress Garden vests that would someties get peeled down around our thighs like condoms when we crashed.
I'm sure I've got some super 8 home movies from good ole 1977.
I don't, however, have a video of me getting slung 4 feet outside of a metal nun channel marker on a tube at high speed. That was odd...

I grew up where we made our skis and sleds and the tubes we used were off a tractor. We would go in circles until the wake was huge in the middle and then sent the tuber thru it. We had people flying 50 ft and more. They say when you whip you are going twice as fast as the boat The best whips usually stall the boat but by that time you would have been thrown off. My dad sent a guy into a tree and he broke ribs also. I didn't get my first concave ski until I was 10, we used plywood skis my dad made, they were nice looking but still wood. He made a tobaggan out of the same wood and when the nose went under on that it would take you right to the bottom.
