Pretty weak showing so far. Saw about 10 boats in town tonight.:(

ScottB 04-02-2004 09:39 PM

Last year there were 45-50 boats and only about 10 on Friday as well.

gmhdfan 04-02-2004 11:34 PM

Scott, I'm not bashing but years past their were more than 10 boats in town by Thursday night. Scott we had drinks at the Tiki bar last year and we both know there were more than 10 boats at each hotel in town on Friday night. I know more boats will show up, but even my girls were concerned about the boat count. (They look forward to the candy from the parade:) )

This was no way to attract current or potential fans.

I spoke to many dissapointed and angry spectators along the parade route before and after the parade>>>

Common ..a five boat parade?? Where are the rest??? What happened??

To me, after coming here the past few years, this was the true "Shock & Awe!!" almost a baren inspection staging area before and after the "parade".. Someone better apologize to the city or we will lose another great venue..

This area is usually packed...WTF????

This loyal fan wants to know???

Thanks to those teams that did participate!!

Their are several reasons that play into this. Normally this was a warm up race for APBA Daytona race which usually is the week after the St. Cloud race. But no Daytona race this year:( I would have thought to see some more SBI guys shaking down their boats for Miami. The closing of Lake X doesn't help. With all the turmoil this last year a lot of teams are waiting to see how things shake out. (or going poker running) I think this might be the last race here in St Cloud for awhile anyway. They are going to be rebuilding the Lake Front and it will be under construction this time next year. But I think the real irony today was when the APBA people introduced Lee Mills to talk about the future of APBA:rolleyes: This sport sure makes strange bed fellows. But there are still enough boats in town to have a boat race. Most of the local town folks don't really know what's going on in Offshore Racing anyway. They will see and hear boats going around the lake and will go home after watching a "boat race". I still bet there will be a bigger boat count than some of the SBI races of the past. Lets just wish for a safe race and the Rotary club makes some money for a worthy cause.

Ron P 04-03-2004 08:26 PM

I just spoke to Bruce from Simply Awesome. He says that APBA reports 31 boats should take the green flag. That's plenty of boats to put on a great show. As long as there are 3 or more boats in a class, there's a good chance for action packed racing.

Run em fast and stay dry boyz.

Hmmm.and they are just finishing the Riverwalk in Sanford.....I know that Hydro-Prop is working with the city for an Unlimited Hydro race.. How about Offshore joining them??

See ya all in the wet pits in the morning...

gmhdfan 04-03-2004 08:44 PM

Hi Ron. I was talking with Bruce today and he said he would move up a class if he had to. At lest the weather is nice. I'll see you in NJ for the May race. Let me know if you need another sweep boat. Makes for a good front row seat.:)

Ron P 04-03-2004 09:47 PM

Pete you know your always welcome and I'll hook you up with a front row seat.:D

I think Ron just saved the day by calling Bruce and telling us that there are 31 boats in the race. Not bad... Thanks Ron.

Let us know who won...full report at the end of the day please!

Small lake:confused: There are alot of small lakes in Central Fla. But East Lake isn't one of them. Lake X is/was a small lake.

Small town? Not any more they have a Wal-Mart now:D :D

Spoke to Bruce again. He says it looks more like 21 boats total. One DQ for someone blowing a .15 in the breathalizer.

DARREN US1 04-04-2004 01:13 PM

:p OH BOY!

Ron P 04-04-2004 01:17 PM

Just spoke to Pete. The first race is over.

PX Bacardi
P3 - DLaw
P4 United Way
P5 SIMPLY AWESOME - Go Brucie!
A - Velocity
F1 - Mark and Gino

More updates to come after the second race.

Ron P 04-04-2004 03:06 PM

Second race report:

Bob Bull in his new Cat won in SCL or SC not sure. It was followed by a yellow boat but no one knows who owns it yet.

Extreme Vortec ran alone in SLV

Misasukee won SV, Fury second, Pier 57 3rd and the new Gregg Riechmen boat took 4th after missing a turn bouy.

That's all I know. Thanks to Bruce and Pete for being our on site reporters.

DARREN US1 04-04-2004 03:42 PM

The yellow cat has the number 7 on the side in the pictures. Nigel Hook has the rights to #7 in the APBA super series classes, or at least he did last year.
