Hot Tubs and Spas

I am thinking about buying a Hot Tub for therapeutic reasons, something that really gives a great massage. I don't just want something that looks good and bubbles. Does anybody have a spa that they really think is the cat's meow? What about Dimension One or Caldera. I hear that they are the best. Any opinions?

powerguy 04-04-2004 08:53 AM

I have had a Dimension 1 for 6 years and it has been great.

Andy Buzz 04-04-2004 09:09 AM

My opinion.... The best is a Sundance Spa or a Hot Springs. I peronally have a Sundance Maxxus huge 600 gallon three motor spa. It is a powerhouse when it comes to getting the kinks out. Very well made.

You might want to look into one that will fit in your bathroom. You can just fill it up with hot water when you are ready. No need to treat the water and keep it running and heated when not using it. If you do get a bigger one look into getting a gas heater. Good luck.

I have a Hot Springs and love it. I keep it hot all year. I just wired mine 110 because I keep mine hot. You can wire it 220 and just turn it up when you want it. Mine sits outside here in Indiana and I could hardly tell a difference on my electric bill.

Grabbing my speedo I'll be over soon guys :D

check out www.thermospas.com

I have had the Manhattan for one year and it is simply amazing!
Without a doubt the Mercedes Benz of hot tubs. It was expensive, but worth every penny !

All the best,
Hans

you can wire it 220 and still keep it hot all the time. mine is wired that way. the electrician says its cheaper, plus it heats up faster. if you run it 110 (again this is on mine) when you turn on the jets, the heater stops, it cant run both at the same time. if you have ever been in one when its cold, they cool off after a little while. ive got a morgan. dont know how they are compared to the others, but i like it

BajaRunner 04-04-2004 10:40 AM

oh, and if you can get a chiropractor to write a prescription for one, you dont pay taxes.

Yeap, only way to go. Same info I have experinced when we search for ours.

We bought a Sundance 10 yrs ago and it is a high quality. Solid insulation. The less expensive ones from Lowes or such are more of the blanket insulation stapled to the side panels. Bottom is open. Not as efficent, but alot cheaper in $$.

Jassman 04-04-2004 12:08 PM

Hot Springs, thats all they do is make Hot tubs, nothing else, great product, not the cheapest or best looking spa, but theroputic, and thats what I need for my back. Jeff

Panasonic is coming out with a new massage chair this month. It is entirely different than all other generations of massage chairs. I personally have both a spa and a chair. I have four of the new model chairs on the way and will make any OSO member a great deal.

The new design is trackless, weighs and measures you to determine where and how to massage best. I tested a pre-release version last month and was very impressed.

I agree that 220 is the way to go but I was already wired 110 and didn't feel like changing it. You are correct that you cannot run both the jets and heater on 110 but I never stay in it long enough for that to be a factor.

I have a COAST SPAS for 3 years now it is great. Also not the cheapest but they are made in Canada so you can wheel and deal. It has 2 7HP pumps in it and you seat deep so to get your uper back and neck. might check them out.

I've got a 475 gallon CalSpa with two 4 horse pumps on it. It was already at the house I bought and I'm concerned that it doesn't blast as well as I think 8 horsepower should do. It does okay, but all the little rotating nozzles don't want to spin. Gotta flick em to get them spinning.

The new stuff has really awesome looking jet stations that should really work you over.

I don't expect that nime will ever "wear out" so I'm kind of stuck with it.

I'm sure you can find better.

Gas heat works wonderful.

I have a sundance spa. It is suppose to be the best theraputic spa made. Very expensive but works great and service is excelllent.

SOX 04-04-2004 08:50 PM

I have a Master Spa, I chose it because of it's power. It has three pumps and a circulator. Also two of the seats have magnets embedded into the fiberglass for that magnetic therapy.

When checking out Spas do your home work!!! I went to poolandspa.com you can search every spa on the market apples to apples. There IS a difference in insulation, power, pumps, ect.

Very important to me was the heater...My neighbor has a spa which just can't keep up in the winter without closing the cover half way to keep in the heat...I've been in my Master in 5 degree weather with out problem, well my beer was freezing but the tub ran great...

Good luck!!

Recently replaced an older CalSpa with a new Master Spa. Like it much better! Better control over jets and more energy efficient insulation and pump arrangement. Nothing better after a hard day (or night) at work!

It is supposed to help blood circulation which helps healing of tired joints etc.. I have spoken to people that wear jewelry made of magnets and they swear by it. I don't know how true it is, but I don't think it can hurt. And I always feel better after getting out of the tub than I do going in!

We bought our Jacuzzi under a medical emergency situation. Didn't have time to shop around and don't recognize the names of the better spas you guys are talking about. But in case it helps anyone, our spa had just that stupid spray on insulation on the bottom. We live in Ohio, and the electric bill skyrocketed. My husband opened up the cedar base and stuffed the bottom full of insulation, 0 the basic pink fiberglas stuff you put in your attic and walls - in addition to setting the whole thing on insulating foam.

My electric bill initially shot up $75 a month. After we insulated the tub, the electric bill increase turned out to be aboutn $15 a month - winter only. We don't use it in the summer.
