I think Imco just came out with a heavy Duty Gimbal....the pictures showed it in polished chrome. i t looked cool

Cord 04-06-2004 08:26 AM

How much hp?

racer-x6 04-06-2004 08:56 AM

IT Wasn't a hp issue,
I WAS RUNNING ABOUT 55 IN A LONG TURN AND RAN IN SHALLOW WATER RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIVER.
I HAVE RUN THAT SECTION FOR 10 YEARS AND NEVER SEEN IT THAT SHALLOW IN THE MIDDLE. I GUESS ALL THE RAIN CHANGED IT.
THE THING THAT SUCKS IS THAT MERCRUISER CAN'T DESIGN A BETTER WAY TO CHANGE GIMBLE RINGS AND PINS OTHER THAN PULLING THE MOTOR OUT:mad:
THE DRILLING AND TAPPING METHOD IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME, LOOKS LIKE CRAP!
HERE'S A TIP MERCURY (ACCESS COVER UNDER THE DECAL):eureka:

R Addiction 04-06-2004 09:53 AM

I'm replacing the gimbal on my AT. It is covered by my warranty, but they are puting holes in the housing....not to thrilled with that!!

VelocityMark 04-06-2004 10:36 AM

Someone posted a thread sometime back about replacing them from the rear. They showed removing the M/C sticker and making an access hole there. When completed they had a polished stainless cover that fit just like the sticker and nothing else could be seen. If I had to replace mine this would be a good option.

Tantrum 04-06-2004 11:27 AM

Get in touch with Wild Thing Taz.
He has designed a window cut out for the rear of the housing which gives access. I did it last year and it worked out very well.
Ill see if I cant dig up some pics and post them.

R Addiction 04-06-2004 11:57 AM

Velocity mark, Do you remember who did that procedure or where was it posted? Very interested!!:)

racer-x6 04-06-2004 01:04 PM

I HAVE LOOKED IN THE TECH SECTION AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING! SURE WOULD BE QUICKER TO OPEN THE BACK AND A PLATE WOULD LOOK BETTER THAN TWO PLUGS.
I HAVE A YARD FULL OF BOATS THAT I COULD BE WORKING ON INSTED OF MINE:D

dreamer 04-06-2004 01:09 PM

saw wild things invention real cool cuts the labor WAY down!!

Tantrum 04-06-2004 01:45 PM

Here is the link to JR Marine.
This is the fix I used on mine last season. Ron was very helpful and the kit worked out and is holding up very well.

I had Ron (Wildthing Taz) re-fit the female part my swivel goes thru in the gimble. My mechanics were FLOORED at how "original/stock" it looked.

Thanks, Ron! You've got all my referrals!!!!!!

VelocityMark 04-06-2004 02:04 PM

Thats the one I new I saw it some where.:eureka:
Thanks

R Addiction 04-06-2004 05:12 PM

NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL TEAM WORK:D
IT DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE WITH ALL THESE HANDS:D

mr_velocity 04-13-2004 09:48 AM

Why did you pull the transom assembly off the boat? Usually there is enough room to slip a slightly modified wrench in once the motor is out. You're not kidding, the hard way!!

racer-x6 04-13-2004 10:01 AM

THE TRANSOM WAS NOT CUT ENOUGH TO GET A WRENCH IN, AND I WANTED TO INSPECT FOR ANY DAMAGE. IT WASN'T THAT BAD:D
I DID GET A CHANCE TO CLEAN THE BILGE.
FOUND LOTS OF GOOD STUFF!!!

Good stuff ? Eric what did you find??The last time I saw your boat There no way you found anything in the bilge unless someone else put it there:D :DWell maybe some Lego's:D

I did a friend of mine a couple years ago and found a battery charger, wrenched bolts ,screws under the motor.. the bilge pump didn't work I wonder why.

get that thing ready we have a boat race to got to;)

racer-x6 04-13-2004 01:19 PM

ROB,
I THINK DAVE IS GOING TO HOOK US UP ON A ROOM:D
THE ONLY THING WE HAVE TO PAY IS THE BOAT SLIP:D :D
