Model Turbines

1 Attachment(s)
Here is the heli package. Who is going to be the first to put two of them in a model offshore cat?

Microturbines are amazing.

We designed and built a twin turbine model aircraft for an SAE competition in college.

They sounds just like the real thing. :)

Whats the price tag on that little bugger?
Im thinking a turbine powered skateboard :D

CigDaze 04-06-2004 02:01 PM

Approximately 5K for basic engines, and can go up from there depending on fuel management, electronics, transmissions, etc.

CigDaze 04-06-2004 02:03 PM

They're quite extraordinary...a little 3 pound turbine can produce about 40 pounds of thrust. That would be plenty for a skateboard scooter. :D :D :D

I'd seen the jets for years, but this is the first turboshaft I've seen.

CigDaze 04-06-2004 02:29 PM

50,000 to 115,000 rpms.

You need lots of gear reductions.

Typical idle is about 30,000 rpms.

I'm gonna put one on a Scooter so I can kick GlassDave's ass in the 04 KeyWest Scooter Race.:D
