Model Turbines

1 Attachment(s)
Here is the heli package. Who is going to be the first to put two of them in a model offshore cat?

CigDaze 04-06-2004 01:58 PM

Microturbines are amazing.

We designed and built a twin turbine model aircraft for an SAE competition in college.

They sounds just like the real thing. :)

Whats the price tag on that little bugger?
Im thinking a turbine powered skateboard :D

CigDaze 04-06-2004 02:01 PM

Approximately 5K for basic engines, and can go up from there depending on fuel management, electronics, transmissions, etc.

CigDaze 04-06-2004 02:03 PM

They're quite extraordinary...a little 3 pound turbine can produce about 40 pounds of thrust. That would be plenty for a skateboard scooter. :D :D :D

GregP 04-06-2004 02:06 PM

I'd seen the jets for years, but this is the first turboshaft I've seen.

CigDaze 04-06-2004 02:29 PM

50,000 to 115,000 rpms.

You need lots of gear reductions.

Typical idle is about 30,000 rpms.

I'm gonna put one on a Scooter so I can kick GlassDave's ass in the 04 KeyWest Scooter Race.:D

glassdave 04-06-2004 04:47 PM

well . . i guess i'll hafta build a TWIN turbine one than :D :D

actually i wanna know who's gonna be the first to hook one of these up to a blender :D :D

More info.....is there a website?

GregP 04-06-2004 05:37 PM

Yes, but it is all in German and the addy is on my work computer. If you go to the Vario model heli site and download their catalog pdf (190 pages) the web link is in there towards the end.

had one in a plane was not the turbo prop though. Boat application...... now that worth exploring. The helecopter was too expensive for little flying time.

http://www.cat-ing.de Hope you can read German.

If you can't navigate in German ... http://www.cat-ing.de/turbines/jetca...rturbinen.html

This is not the one pictured above, but this turboshaft turbine engine is probably more suited to r/c boats. It's output shaft is axial with turbine rotation, not perpendicular like helicoptor model above.

Incredible technology.

GregP 04-07-2004 08:05 AM

The helo turbine output is axial too, the rest of the "stuff" shown is part of the heli kit.

Gotcha, Good point, thanks...but the gear reduction is already built in to the other one I posted...if you take off the "other stuff" from post one, I wonder if there's anything like that.
