SAAB Steps up to the plate!!
As some of you may have read in the past we had some problems with our Saab 9.3 Vector that we got. It was one of the first Vectors that came into the country and due to all the new changes we just happened to get a Lemon. We did however drive the car for a year and also put 25,000 miles on it and probably another 10-15,000 on thier loaner car. Well to make a long story short Saab bought back the car. I was bumming thinking that I was going to have to come up with more money and pay for milage and this and that. BOY WAS I SUPRISED LAST NIGHT when I showed up at the dealer. They had a brand new 2004 (year newer then my last car) sitting on the lot for me. I Pam and I signed 4 pieces of paper and we were on our way!!! They paid for all the taxes, re-registration costs, did not charge us for ANY milage on the other car, and the new car has the same exact features but a HIGHER sticker price!!! After my Ford experience I can not tell you all how PLEASED I am with the way that they handled the situation. They did take their time to do it but the end result is that not only did they do the correct thing but a few steps better I have to say :D:D I drove off feeling like I STOLE the car...... A big THANK YOU to SAAB NASSUA NORTH (my dealer)

2 thumbs up!

I've owned two Saabs, the last one a 900 Turbo SPG that had been tricked out by an old "Mainer" who used to race them. He had that little 1.9 litre four banger pumping out about 315 hp, and this was when the 5.0 Mustangs and IROC Camaros were the hot item. Though you could not launch it overly hard due to the front wheel drive, (it would put you in a ditch) once it was rolling it would just flat run away from the above mentioned cars. It surprise a whole lot of people. Drove it twice from Maine to Florida, sometimes running 135 mph EFFORTLESSLY, (with of course my Valentine One on constant guard) and enough baggage for 6 weeks in Florida. I personally got the car over 150 a couple of times. For the time (89'-92') it was a screamer. Eventually sold it for my first tow rig, a new 4 wheel drive "Burb".

Formula Outlaw: You can take a Mustang and spend THOUSANDS of dollars trying to get it to go fast. Or you can buy a Saab and put a clutch spring around the waiste gate, turn two screws in the computer and for about 1 dollar you produce HUGE horse power and will blow the Mustangs and Camero's away. I used to run 30 pounds of boost in my 1976 Saab 99 with 5 cold start injectors that came on progressivly as the boost came on. Man that car was a rip to drive. |

Glad they stepped up to the plate and made it right!

Audio, I'll bet that "99" was a friggin blast to drive. I know a whole bunch of vettes, stangs, camaros, etc., just went slackjawed when that SPG just sceamed away from them. And that competition only exhaust that he put on it sounded just like a "911 Turbo". Damn car really hauled azz. You could be running along at 70, drop down to 4th, nail it, and it would flat pin you in those seats. I miss that car. And it handled like it was on rails.

I know where they are assembled..I used to own one too. Just thought the fact that GM owned a piece would make Cuda feel a little better. Guess not. :D
I'm glad to see GM hasn't had enough input to turn Saab's into Chevys anyway. After my previous experience with GM, (A Yukon) the only way they will ever see a penny from me again is if I buy another Saab. |
I just like to keep our northern AMERICAN freinds employed. My last four American trucks have all been great!

I think it has just become chic to bash American cars.

My wife's Infiniti G20 was in for new rear shocks last week (under warranty). They didn't have any loaners at the time so they gave her a Stratus. The next day they called her and said they were sorry about the rental car, and she could bring it back for a loaner, because that's what she paid for. So she had a new G35 for about a week. That's the major difference I see these days in the mfrs. Some will bend over backwards to help out the person that bought their product, and others consider them just another pain in the a$$. The G20 is their bottom of the line car and she's treated like she spent $60K on it. The US manfacturers and especially the dealers need to realize how much this means to people. We can get family pricing on Ford and GM, and supplier pricing for just about anything else, and she went with a well built car from a great dealership that will kiss her a**. Not treat her like crap like the Olds dealer before this.
I'll stick with my Chevy Avalanche though. Built in Hermisillo, Mexico??? |
Cuda it is not CHIC it is REALITY.
My Ford: When it breaks I have to make a apointment. Drive to the dealer, drop off the truck and PAY for a rental, if I am lucky I get a truck, and then waite for DAYS for them to fix the car. My Saab: When it breaks I have to make a apointment (this is were the similarities end and try and stick with me on this one Cuda) They send a car and driver down not a POS GEO that Ford used to give me when I was still in Warrantee but another Saab. They drive my car back to the dealer and fix it. When they are done they drive my car back to me and we exchange cars. They will pick my car up ANYPLACE in New England. This service is for the LIFE of the car. I also get annuall free detailings, free oil changes for as long as I own the car and many other things that NO american car dealer will do. I find it funny that people so blindy fallow this buy american slogan. You can buy American but if you look most of the American cars and trucks are NOT made in the "good old US of A. My money goes to the people that work for it and the europeans just seem to do it better. :D:D Jon |
In my dain bramaged opinion...every car is going to have issues. It's how those issues are handled that separate the good from the great manufacturers.
Saab has been great to me... http://www.highperformancecars.com/hhangin/saab.jpg |
I guess Jon failed to tell Saab he was pulling his trailer queen around with it :D :D in that case I can see why he needed a new one, Damn water logged Antique Boat

My experiences have been right in line with Bill272's and Audio's. I actually own two American vehicles right now..a Ford and a Jeep. Not becasue I was dead-set on buying American, but for other reasons. Not really much competition from the imports for an Excursion or a Wrangler. :D
When I had my Saab, the dealer treated me like royalty. They would actually let me choose what I wanted for a loaner...convertible, wagon, whatever. Keep in mind I had a 9.3 - the lowest priced car they sold at the time. On top of that, it wasn't even brand new when I got it. It was one of the loaner fleet from the dealer, which they sold before they hit 5,000 miles. Try that with a Chevy. Go and buy a mid-line model, like an Impala or a Mailbu. When it's in for service, tell them you'd like a Corvette Convertible for a loaner if it's available, since it's a nice day. Let me know how hard they laugh. My buddy has a brand new Z06. If he's lucky enough to even get a loaner, which is rare, they give him a piece of crap. |
SOUNDS LIKE THERE ARE SOME HAPPY SAAB OWNERS ON THE BOARD! I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT I HAVE BEEN A SAAB MASTER TECHNICIAN SINCE 1988 AND I PRESENTLY OWN A INDEPENDENT SAAB SERVICE CENTER. FROM A SAAB TECHS POINT OF VIEW I FEEL THAT SAAB'S ARE WELL ENGINEERED VEHICLES THAT NOT ONLY LOOK AWESOME,BUT PERFORM WELL AND LAST! TOM

Actually Audio, I had a 97 F150 that was in the shop 13 times the first year. This was the first year for the new body style truck. They finally replaced mine as Saab did for you but I had almost 30K miles. The only difference probably is that I saw my old truck on the dealers lot a few days later.

Like Cuda said... Buy American.... but can you?.... my neighbor just bought a new Dodge Hemi Truck.... awesome truck.... but when you open the hood... it's got "made in Mexico" stickers everywhere... and Chrysler is controlled by the Germans now.... so.... really... what is American?.... another friend had an El Camino... made in Mexico too... :o
|
The entire auto industry is a case of "strange bedfellows"... Volkswagon owns Rolls Royce and Lamborghini.... Fiat Owns Ferrari... Ford owns both Jaguar and Aston Martin. They also own a big chunk of Volvo, Mazda and Range rover... GM owns chunks of Saab. BMW owns Bentley... and there is some deal where VW has to sell Rolls Royce to BMW in a few years..... or is it the other way around? I can't keep them straight any more...

FYI
A Honda Accord has greater american content (70+%)than the so-called american cars. So, if "buy american" is important to you.........buy a Honda. Sorry for the topic diversion. vtec |
Jon,
Glad they did right by you. Good luck with the new ride. Shane:) |
