no longer a virgin

Well after over 25 years of owning and running performance boats i finely lost my virginity

was running Lake Michigan yesterday in moderate waves was only out 5 minutes when i lost a drive

(Brovo drive with Merc 600 SC's pushing 1998 Top Gun )

In all the years i have owned boats i have never blown a drive so i guess i was due

Drive will be off tonight and on its way to be repaired

I am told by my drive expert friend that he will have all the new updated GOOD stuff back in it by the weekend or by first of next week

I am going to give him both drives to do since i fear i am buying time on the other drive

since i don't seem to have messed up the case i will keep these to run

I thought about buying two new ones but not sure after reviewing past post on this subject that i would be any better off

i would welcome any additional thoughts

Marc

Marc, let us know what upgrades you do. Are you staying with Merc stuff , or another company?

Put Imco parts in them

WickedWon 04-19-2004 06:48 AM

Should They Stay Or Should They Go.....

Marc , the decision should be based on weather your gonna keep this boat for a while or is this the last season.

boatme 04-19-2004 07:03 AM

Jim,

What do you recommend ????

Wont be last boat but that has nothing to do with it

i want it good for the guy that buys it don't the road

I have been looking into imco parts but am also told Mercs new upgrades are pretty good as well

Payton,

I am not sure yet i have 2 days to figure this out :)

LEOPAJM 04-19-2004 07:23 AM

Marc ... sorry to hear that ,... better now than July 7 th however !!!

Wait ... you mean there were "waves" out there ?????

They didn't say anything about those in the brochure! :D

I talked to Parnell, he went out after we came in

Gotta love boating in April in Michigan

How can u break bravos with only 550hp????

Mine have close to 200 hrs on them ,,, XR,s with up grades, but,,,,,, I never run my boat hard,,,,, never go out in rough water,,,, and always leave it on the trailer if the wind is blowing over 10mph,,,, rite!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the club.

ActiveFun 04-19-2004 08:34 PM

RHC,
You never run the boat hard?? Never run in rough water?? and always leave the boat on the trailer if the wind is blowing?? Please don't take this the wrong way, but what are you doing on Offshore Only?? No wonder you haven't broke anything. Maybe you should get a Hydrostream and run it on a lake??

SABER28 04-19-2004 08:46 PM

Marc,

Sorry you lost your viginity! (I know the feeling)

I have been watching and listening to see how your boat was doing because since I had to rebuild my motors last summer I am now running 550 hp. Similar to your set-up with a little less hp.

This spring will be the first time I really run the boat and I am anxious to see how the drives do

Anything beats blowing a drive on july 4th weekend :D

Half Nutz 04-19-2004 09:15 PM

The picture above was July 5th!! :D

CAP071 04-19-2004 09:16 PM

 OH MAN

dreamer 04-19-2004 11:29 PM

what do you do when you blow a drive? idle for ever? find the closest dock and call a cab?

really what do you do?

ive only broken drives by hiting logs

knock on wood

Halfnutz, dont tell me you werent out this last weekend. It was perferct TG water on Sun. for my maiden voyage 3-4's. I was thinking of buying a rebuilt or used drive as a spare drive for now and see how I do.

boatme 04-20-2004 05:15 AM

Good news was I was just a few hundred yards from pier head so i just turned around and went back to the launch ramp on one motor
was no big deal

Half Nutz,

I changed props before i went out and since i had to much slip with the other ones i think these just finished the job on drives that had 390 hours on them

I redid the top half's of the engines this fall so all is good there this was the week link and i was half expecting it to happen

we will be back on the water next week

I am staying with the bravo 1's just putting in upgraded guts

will see how all goes after that

Nope, hoping for 1080 - 1100hp ( real #'s) should have'm back in about two weeks.

Activefun, Roger ( RHC) is one of the sickest people on this board  He ( and poor Steff) run in ANYTHING ! Rain, cold, HUGE water....I think he's making up for not joining the Coast Guard when he had the chance :D :D

Half Nutz, Dan, you really didn't get in last weekend ? Stop waxing the damn thing and go break something !:D

Marc, hope the rebuild works for ya, my personal experience and what I've witnessed, is once they fail the chase never seemed to stop except with new assemblies.....for a while

JD

Half Nutz 04-20-2004 08:22 AM

Nope didn't get in (still waxing!!!!):D

I will verify that RHC will boat in anything! He's a little loopy. :D

Marc,

Don't listen to Jim "the glass is half empty" Deitz!

I had to rebuilt a bravo on my saber w/500's and 10 minutes after I mounted the drive we ran an 80 mile poker run, and I ran the crap out of the boat!!!

That drive now has 200 hours on it and no problems!!

The funny part was the guy who built the drive was with me and was screaming at me because I wasn't "breaking in the drive" properly. Oh well if it was going to break it was going to break then!

Dan
