My Miami SBI experience

Launched out of Matheson Hammocks park in So Fl. Since it was so rough i decided to go through the bay to Bayside where the wet pits were. On the way there we were catching some nasty head wind 20-25 Mph and about 3-4 foot waves. Ran up on what I believe to be a 33 Avanti (Big old American Flag) paint job.. Beautiful boat with twin 250 Merc outboards. Got up next to him and he floored it. Couldn't let him beat me so I told the girls on the boat to hold their breasts :D, and ran the sticks as close to the center console as I could. Not only walked on him, but pretty much "sprinted" on the guy. The boat ran beautifully. Always felt in control..just skipped over the waves. That was the only good part of the day...

I got to Bayside. Put on my AC/DC and cruised around looking at the race boats... All of a sudden, right in the middle of Bayside, both motors quit. Try to start them but no power :( ... Damnit.... Had to call Boat.US for a tow all the way back to Matheson. 2 Hr ride and I missed the races...

Anyway as a learning experience for anyone that would want to avoid the rookie mistake I made.... I run my batteries on "Both" all the time so my voltometers always show both batteries are being charged. Well, one of the alternators had gone bad and I did not notice. I use shorepower at home so my batts are always charged. Well, the second alternator went bad in the middle of Bayside.... So I guess I learned something.. Hope it helps someone not make my mistake.. I deserve the Poodle award for the week..:D

Sorry to hear about your electrical problems.............
but look at the bright side.........
you had Boat US tow service,
you spanked the 33 Avanti,
the girls didn't loose "anything",
and............ you're in Miami!:D

When you flush your motors (assuming you use in salt water most of the time) always flush one at a time and check the ammeter guage. At least that's what I do. Last summer, doing that and seeing one guage in full discharge, looked under the hatch and found the belt broken. New belt, good to go.
