Hey Stan
You did not miss anything bubba !
It was the ugliest water i have ever seen !!!
It started when we got to the inlet , i was right behind the pace boat and he got vertical, everyone in the boat was kicked around ! So we backed off the throttles , at that point all the other boats behind us where coming up quick , i looked back and all i saw was the bottoms and drives from a couple of dozen boats coming at us, it was not a good feeling !
The ocean was ROUGH At the mouth of the inlet it must have been 12 to 14 foot waves !!! We were being hit from every direction ! We tried to get back on plane boat the waves were way too big !
When we eventually got to the milling area i saw a fellow racer "Taboo "a 42 ft Fountain going back in , i motioned to see if he was OK ? But Bill was waving with his thumbs down and motioning that he was heading back in ! I later found out that going through the inlet he ripped out the motor mounts !
When we were in the milling area it was real hard to keep an eye on the pace boat and on everybody else the visibility was bad ,i was wearing sun glasses but the were so full of salt that i just threw them in the boat !
The pace finally put the yellow flag out but we couldn't get on plane the waves were coming from the north and we had to surf a wave hading to the south to get going , the flag man went down to get the green flag but came back up with the yellow again ? The start was very confusing to say the least !
When we finally started racing ,now i really couldn't see anything all the splash from the other boats and sea conditions put together was blinding !!
But once the start was over the visibility got a little better , boats were breaking down everywhere and there was so much seaweed to avoid {didn't need to fill the water pick ups with seaweed !}
But after all was said and done no one was hurt allot of broken equipment and a few bruised ego's
We got a checkered flag !
Yours truly
