Cheap Larry Smith Scarab???
|
Seems like a wreck.
And this looks strange."no pics, no emails, bring $26,500, cash" |
Look at the pics now. Boat is a total wreck! Salvage value only.
|
That guy could've saved some of the per word charge for Boattrader:
"I'm an idiot. If you're a bigger idiot, give me $26,500 cash." |
Do you guys have pics of the boat other than the one on boat trader? I cant see chit from that pic!
|
That looks like the old drambuie boat, I think it sunk on its last run in england.
|
That could be the Drambuie. It sounds like Drambuie which had quad CAT motors. It ran not even close to 100, let alone 127. I heard a strange story about this boat being damaged in a freak accident involving a train while it was being trailered. Sounded very improbable and odd. It was a while back, can't remember the details or who told me that. Anyone remembers or has any info about the demise of Drambuie? I think I saw it near Pantera facility 4 or 5 years ago...
|
A transporter got the trailer hung up on a railroad crossing in front of our shop.. A train hit it. It was derigged and sat in our yard for years.
|
With 4 experimental Cat 3126 engines it ran close to 90mph
|
I think it got stuck on that train tracks going over that large hump and that is when it was hit by the train. I was told the middle of the trailer bottomed out and thats how it got stuck
|
Why would anyone do business with a waste of oxygen such as this guy..
"127mph, bow damage, cost $1.2 million, no trailer, no pics, no emails, bring $26,500, cash" aaaaahhhh never mind you keep it ! |
A DIAMOND in the ROUGH!
She's a real BEAUT! A real fixer upper I tell ya!
|
Damn! So it did get hit by a train. The whole story is so wild that I could't figure out whether I actually heard this from someone or if it was just my imagination.
Anyway, a while ago I had a word with Dag Pike who skippered this thing around Britain and I think he said they never saw more than 80 mph on it. It could be that motors were turned down a bit for those endurance runs. Immaterial though, because it may be 80 or 90 but it's surely not 127 and besides, would you want a boat which already had a pretty tough life before having a close encounter with a freight train? TNT, if it sat in your facility, do you know anything about the marketing genius who's selling it now? :D |

On another note, here is a Scarab that I would actually own:cool: But for about $30k less than his asking price:rolleyes: That 50' is sad all together:( I still can't see how people can just let great boats rot away and get into that shape:mad: |
Fever Mike, this guy has had this boat for sale for a very long time at $79,000:crazy: When I bought mine from Pier 45 back in 1997 I paid $75k otd on the trailer. He had it on consignment for awhile but they told him to come get it since he was'nt ready to part with it for a realistic price. I think he probably paid to much when he originally bought it then he over invested in the boat and is trying to recoup his losses. Probably his first boat and he just does'nt know what it is worth:confused:
I was thinking that this boat was worth $49k max, what do you think a good selling price would be? The owner needs to get realistic on his pricing and realize that it is a 9 year old boat that was driven very hard before he had ownership. Maybe he is'nt to serious about selling it and in a few years he will be selling it in the same condition as the Larry Smith 38' :eureka: The he will drop his price to $69k:rolleyes: :D |
I have a 1987 38’ full Kevlar lay-up, race deck, stored inside, new trailer, never been rigged, no holes in the hull for $35k.

I wonder is this guy actually believes his 9 yo Scarab is worth $86,000:confused:  Maybe he owes Fat Tony $75g and selling his boat is the only way out:eureka:  I don't know whether to feel sorry for people like this or be mad that they might be trying to pull a scam:mad: The boat does look very rough and needs some TLC, either it was used and abused or outright neglected. Each time I see this ad I truly think that the guy is just lost in his own world without a clue of what he has...We all know Florida is salt water and that Scarabs were made there. Yet this Scarab somehow is freshwater use only:confused: I am far from a genius but I think anyone could figure that one out...And the magzine article may have also given that one away:p |
