The base of the retactable one threads into the unit thru the hull. The light stays flush inside this threaded piece. You have to drill a 1 3/4" hole into the hull to acomodate the threaded piece. My boat had a round Perco base that had a 3/4" hole thru hull. The new hole was alot larger and even the 3 screw holes were covered by the new base. Eddie sells either a white or chrome base.

I was gonna order one with my new boat but was talked out of it due to the many problems encountered after a year or so of use. The problem is as stated in earlier posts, is if it's grabbed and broke and you're fed up with replacing a fairly expensive light, the holes are much bigger than say the Perko's. This means if you decide to go back to the trusty standards you're left with a much bigger hole to deal with.
Otherwise a neat concept...
