Cut the ball off and put on the size you need. All you need to do is grind away the weld.

Be careful cutting the ball off and simply replacing it. These trucks may or may not have bumpers that can handle the load.

Hey Rags.......how big is the boat and how much would you estimate it weighs? What do you normally tow the boat with ?

I lost a trailer once. Actually a funny story. I was driving a police vehicle towing a radar trailer, you know the ones that tell your speed as you go by. We had been doing this for years with the same equipment. One day it came unhooked. I was driving a chevy tahoe and when it came loose I naturally let off the gas. The trailer blew out the rear windows of the truck bit the chains kept it in place. Turns out our public works department had put a 1 and 7/8 ball on and the trailer had a 2" tongue. Lots of applause from the passing motorists. My Capt. was chewing me a new ass when I found the problem.

OK. from the begining. I have a 23' Nova Spyder it sets on a dual axle trailer. I normaly tow it with my 3/4 ton BBC suburban. This is not an option as I will tow my Impala on a car trailer with it. The Truck in question for the tow job is a 24 foot disel box truck. The regular LARGE moving truck you see going down the road. I am renting it from Budget rentals. So I am not talking about a ball mounted to a pick up bumper this is a 3/4 inch thick bar that is 3 inches wide. I am moving from Seattle WA to St. Pete's Beach FL. The trailer is safe and more then ready for the road trip. If I cut the ball of with a die cuter and replace it with a 2 5/16 who do I get in FL to weld the 2" ball back on so I can return the truck?

bring a hub, bearing and the tools to swap it , In case it goes. Id swap the ball and then put it back after
just make sure its done right, and drive safe, bring your cell and call someone on the board if you get in trouble

You have no idea how bad Budget is to deal with. I just used them and had a truck that leaked water on my head and the car hauler they said would work with my vehicle did about $1000 worth of damage. Theyare saying they will only pay half the damage as they did not load the car They dont know me very well
