put the new one on a piece of diamond plate and keep any combustibles material as far as you can away from the device. I doubt it would have burned the boat up
it would have died out in the metal case.

Close call. Excellent idea Top DJ. Also, mount it on a stack of washers, or a few stand off sleeves with longer screws or through bolts. This will circulate more air.

BTW I have about 1000 teflon washers
1 inch with a 3/8" hole,, very heat resistant
why else would they use it on fry pans :D

I had A hart Charger/inverter do the same thing in side a dry closet 3 years ago. I was told they got some bad rectifiers that were failing with the damp salt air.WTF. where was my recall notice when I mailed the warranty cord out . Thew paid the repair bill and sent me a new charger that I sold to someone else and bought a different one. No problem, That shows you just how well they look out for there customers.:confused:
