Yeow, that was close to disaster!
Because if the boat actually caught fire and burned down the marina, it would be pretty tough to identify that charger as the cause of the fire :(

We had 2 piers with 120 boats burn to the water level 3 years ago here. They claim it was a battery charger?? They watched it burn. It was no stopping it burn ,allwood piers built in the 1960's Lucky the wind wasn't blowing it would of go the rest..Not a pretty site .

I had one friend loose his but up graded ,He just lost some stuff on the boat that could not be replaced:(

Scary:eek:

The board burned that bad and the fuse/breaker didn't trip????
Bad news. I'd check the fuse/breaker to be sure it's the right amperage. It should've tripped way before it did that much damage.

DANG Rob....real close call. I remember that fire your talking about...that was a big time mess. Glad you caught it cause your right......it all would have been up in smoke. Hope they get that taken care of......thats redicilous.

Iggy they told me at the factory what burned up in it would not have thrown a breaker or the fuse in it.

Does not make sense. i hooked it back up and I sat there and let it smoke and it did not throw. the 10 gage wire that went thru the amp meter almost burned out of the circuit board. when I pulled the cover off it pulled out of it.

Whether it would of caught the boat on fire dont know . BUTT if it had any fumes in it kaboom!!

I haven't ck the boat circuit breaker and amperage but the charger has a 40 in it. 30 amp charger so seem right.

Not only mount is saftly, but maybe a heat activated disconnect of some sort mounted right above it would be safe insurance.
