Default How many hours is considered high?

I have a 1996 model boat. It has 319 hrs on it. I currently have it listed on boat trader. There is a guy sending me a deposit on it as we speak. He said he likes mine compared to the rest he has looked at. He just felt my boat was a high hour boat for this year. WTF??? I was thinking this is pretty good if not low hours.

What's your opinion?

Buck

I would not consider that high for a boat that is 8 years old.

I average over 100 hrs/season. Sounds like he might be trying to get your price down.

average or below some. 7-800 hrs is high for a stock block. Some guys with express cruisers will get 1500-2000 hrs on their 454's.

For stock power, that's not high at all. It's only about 40 hours a year. If well cared for, it could last more than twice that.

Your up to 319hrs on your Sterling 1450 hp I'd say that is excellent. You might want to throw in a re-built for $35,000.

I would disagree with those hours being high.

I just sold my 96 232 w/ 225 hours. IMO anything over 350-400 is getting up there. and its not just the motor hours,, depending on where the boat was used, the hull itself might be all beaten up...

I think the national average per year for a boat is anywhere from 50-75 hours per season location dependent of course. The old rule of thumb was when it hit 500 it was considered a "high mileage" boat. If it's eight years old; compression checks good; appears to be well taken care of i.e. stored in/under cover, oil changes, other areas of the boat well maintained, I would say it's in excellent health...
