Wind Protection
My wife has a real problem with her eyes watering whenever the wind is blowing in her face (like when we are boating - it even happens horseback riding). Sunglasses don't seem to make much difference. I realize this is sort of an odd request however this problem has a very negative impact on our boating experience and I thought perhaps someone might have an idea. Thanks.

Re: Wind Protection
What kind of boat? Windshield or fairing? There are many options out there for wind deflectors, but we need more info. If you don't want a wind deflector on the boat, goggles would work best.

Re: Wind Protection
tried ski goggles? my eyes water too at 100 mph... nothing strange with that
|
Re: Wind Protection
Ski goggles will work but may look a little funny and leave you with some really round untanned eyes. One thing you should try are some sun glasses from a motorcycle shop. Most Harley or custom bike shops have glasses that are made specifically for this problem. They will serve the same purpose as ski goggles but be less cumbersome.

Re: Wind Protection
Guard Dog (?) sunglasses that wrap around like ski goggles but look more like sunglasses.
|
Re: Wind Protection
Yeah exactly, i have some nike glasses that fit my face tight enough that at speed on a bike there is literally no gap at all. This worked well for me, without glasses you might as well be blind at speed

Re: Wind Protection
Go to this post to see our "future" wind protection; our faces were getting "wind burn" because we usually cruise at 70 mph+: glasses don't help.

I put a simple plexiglass wind deflector on my fairing. I just use regular sunglasses and there is very little wind. No eye watering at speeds up to 100.

Re: Wind Protection
Oakley Pro M frames worked great for me.

Re: Wind Protection
Guard Dog goggles work for me. They are sealed around the eyes and are about the same size as regular sunglasses. I use contact lenses when boating and the Guard Dogs have kept them from drying out and blowing out. It is like night and day from wearing Rx sunglasses ... I can turn my head and not worry about loosing my glasses.
Windscreens are like windshields on a custom Harley ... kinda goofy :p |
Re: Wind Protection
During the day I wear REVO extreme wraps I can't say enough about their lens quality. During the night I wear clear Ski Goggles and have no problem with my eyes with either.
If I loose my sunglasses again  I will try these and they are an OSO sponser! EYEWEAR I may try them anyway just to have some back up glasses on board. If her eyes are that sensitive the ski goggles may be the only compromise for you two. |

I really like the Finneys windscreens. Here is a side shot of them on my boat.

Re: Wind Protection
"Bomber" glasses work well. I was using them before they were a sponser on this site. And they float "For the clumbsey". Anything that fits tight to the face. My girlfriend wears those "Jo-Lo" Glasses and always wonders why she cant see. I gave her a pair of the bombers (The Big Spender I am) and they worked great.

Re: Wind Protection
Floating glasses, I'm bout to jump on that, i lost another pair this weekend, in 3 ft of water

Re: Wind Protection
I knew you would be all over that JT!

Re: Wind Protection
It would have been cool if it was a nice, yea i was goin 110 and the wind caught them and they flew off kinda story...but i was sitting in a tube in 3 feet of water drinking a beer, and my friends thought I would look better if the tube was upside-down on my head. Cost of boating for the day=$20, 5 mins in a tube = $100.

Getting the majority of the wind out of your face keeps the fun in running hard for more than 15 minutes. Everything is realative, the difference between 65 and 85mph + is huge. Slight reverse clear windscreens do cost a little speed but they're definitely worth it, keeps the fun in those 50 mile legs ;) Nobody notices them unless ya point them out.

The glasses do float but if I lost them at 80mph I doubt I would be able to find them. |

As long as you are on this subject I was out on Half Nutz Top Gun last weekend and thought those little flip up things are WORTHLESS! What have some of you other TG guys done?

Re: Wind Protection
Cig1, no I was trying to be funny.
I've only run it a few times. Went into the shop just after Xmas for some small changes/updates during the winter. Finally got it back in March and then immediately lost a jesel timing belt and hurt an engine. Now it's back in for one fresh engine and a few more small changes while the engine is getting done. Everything takes SOOOO long. I finally stopped worrying about it. I try to bug them alot but it still takes forever. I think Dan wants it gone as bad as I want it back. FYI, no harleys here, dirt bikes instead. |
