Tow Vehicle?

I am looking to purchase a new (preferably used) tow vehicle capable of towing around 10,000 lbs..

I would like it to be smaller than an F-250.. Is there a vehicle like this?

Thanks!

Ditto on Avalanche 2500. I love mine. Now towing 12K lbs. Well, not yet, but in a week I will be, and legal too.

Yup, the Excursion is shorter than the F250 and you can get a Diesel in it. If you are going to tow 10,000lbs you need a truck like the X, at 8800lbs you will not have to worry about the trailer controlling the truck. The launch your lunch is too light. You will need air bags on anything you tow of that weight. That and a good Diesel engine, it is a difference of 6mpg or 12. I tow a 10K boat and my X gets 12 at 70mph.

Re: Tow Vehicle?

The Avalanche 2500 is great, i have one.

Ignore Dockrocker and Troutly, they think the Renault Le Car was stylish.

The Excursion is a huge vehicle and will not fit in most garages.

The Yukon XL/Suburban is the other vehicle to look at.

With a 10,000 lb boat you need a 3/4 ton chassis.

The 2500 GM series trucks are slightly smaller than a 250, however I wouldn't go any smaller than that for a boat that large. Make sure you spend the $ for a good hitch too, its worth it in the long run.

twoair. Im towing just about 10K (I think) with a 2500 Avalanche and it does just fine. Actually the thing is loaded w/dvd system so it works well on trips.

I just bought an Avalanche today. It's the 1500, but I'm only towing 4500Lbs!

I personnally have a 99 Chevy 2500 with the 6.0 and 4.11 gears. I tow a 24 Outlaw but have towed 7,000 lbs. and the truck pulled excellent. You also have the option of the 2500 HD as well as the 8.1. You also need to consider whether the trcuk is going to be a daily driver or not as to which engine you select. I get 17 mpg with the 6.0. I have heard that the 8.1 is terrible on gas.

Let me know if I can help you with a new or used. I am a Ford dealer in N.C. and will be glad to give you a deal on anything we have in stock. Check out our inventory at www.sandersford.com We have a brand new diesel Excursion due in a week or two. It looks like the one in the pic.

It is THE best SUV tow vehicle in the World. No other truck can touch it for weight, room and creature comforts. Reclining rear bench seat DVD rear air, third seat with more room than most crew cabs and still more room behind that than a subparburban. I had one, I know. And the top reason. 7.3 PSD and 3/4 ton chassis and drivetrain.

Lets see if we can make it bigger. Nope, lets try another.

Re: Tow Vehicle?

I used to love my 99 CC PSD F250, right up until the day I bought the 04 CC PSD F350. The 6.0L has more umph than my 7.3 with 100hp chip. Anything lighter than an F250 around here with a 10,000 lb boat will get you sliding down a wet ramp picking up speed until splash down. Bought a new tahoe back in 95, and I pulled a 24' boat only once.

Yup, 8800lbs wet. That along with 4 people and gear and you have a rolling tank. Get out of my way.

I tow a 38 Hustler with my 2500 Avalanche....no problems and seems to handle EVERYTHING well.

If you think the Avalanche is bad....you should see my 1979 GMC Dually! King cab, fenders tacked on, no seatbelts, no radio, no right rear shock, and about 200,000 miles. Only cost me $2800. Fortunately, I only tow twice a year!

Once you tow with a diesel you'll never go back. I prefer ford's but as an absolute last resort if there were no other options i could probably drive a duramax for a little while i would just have to have dark tinted windows so no one could see me :D

You guys don't know what your talking about. Here's mine. If you really knew your vehicles you would recognize a real truck when you saw it!

Is that thermal glass for that door window or single pane?

Jeez, all the Avalanche bashers...I bought a '04 Avalanche 2500/8.1/4.10 and love it! Best of both worlds - SUV and Pickup. What other SUV can you haul 2 Big Blocks with Velvet Drives in? My 35 Mistress and trailer are probably very close to, if not slightly over 12000 lbs and it tows it with ease.
