I would not do it for less than 1k labor only, so you got a great deal.

This is for labor only. I supplied the couplers, Merc HP $250 ea. from CP Performance. He didn't remove the motors, just loosened enough to pull away from the transom and reach down. Didn't even take the drives off!! I think he gave me a break because he banged me on repairs for one of my trucks!

How could he move them that much? The splines go in 4-5 inches. I could see if you pulled the drive but without I would be surprised. Make sure he aligned the engines to drives, which if he did not remove the drives did not happen, this alone is the most important part, you will ruin the couplers in hours if not aligned.

Mitch, thanks for the help! The motor mounts are set and removing the motors does not change the alignment. There is enough room to move the motors forward and up for access. We had the motors out 2 yrs. ago and aligned them. I checked again last spring and still good. I WILL check again to make sure. They wore out due to lack of grease.....my fault!!

Thats cool, I will have to remember that trick next time. Does your new one have a grease fitting? I know that is one you can forget. What happened, did they spin out? That makes for a nice surprise and noise. What did you do, have a fork lift and hold the engine out a little?

Like they said, you got a good deal. I just paid $1100 to remove and reinstall my engine, new coupler, new U joints and new gimbal bearing. That is including the parts.

BTW, I got a pretty good deal at that price. If I had paid full retail for parts and full price for labor hrs, it would have been closer to $1600-1700.
