Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
I had both couplers replaced and my mechanic charged me $500.00. Did I get ripped off??? :D

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
I assuming that is labor only, if so that is a good price for two.

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
To pull and replace the engines. That doesn't sound bad at all.
|
Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
would you pull 2 motors for $500???you got a deal!
|
Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
I am just finishing this project that started monday night and I would have paid that in a second......You got a deal!!!

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
A friend was quated $800 for parts and labor on his single engine Donzi. Sounds like you did GOOD!

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
Yeah , to all the above. I do most of my own work and I wouldn't want to do mine for $500 :( . Good price.

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
Now your just rubbing it in.
Thats a hell of a deal I would say.... :drink: |
Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
I paid $800 for one. I'm no mathematician, so you do the math.
|
Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
I would not do it for less than 1k labor only, so you got a great deal.
|
Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
Last I checked they are getting 500ea to R&R a motor down here, good deal for 2.

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
This is for labor only. I supplied the couplers, Merc HP $250 ea. from CP Performance. He didn't remove the motors, just loosened enough to pull away from the transom and reach down. Didn't even take the drives off!! I think he gave me a break because he banged me on repairs for one of my trucks!

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
Still a good deal, Most guys will pull the engines, and charge you 500 each. Labor only
|
Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
How could he move them that much? The splines go in 4-5 inches. I could see if you pulled the drive but without I would be surprised. Make sure he aligned the engines to drives, which if he did not remove the drives did not happen, this alone is the most important part, you will ruin the couplers in hours if not aligned.

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
Mitch, thanks for the help! The motor mounts are set and removing the motors does not change the alignment. There is enough room to move the motors forward and up for access. We had the motors out 2 yrs. ago and aligned them. I checked again last spring and still good. I WILL check again to make sure. They wore out due to lack of grease.....my fault!!

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
What a deal I would'nt have touched it for that!!!
|
Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
Thats cool, I will have to remember that trick next time. Does your new one have a grease fitting? I know that is one you can forget. What happened, did they spin out? That makes for a nice surprise and noise. What did you do, have a fork lift and hold the engine out a little?

Re: Is this a good price for replacing couplers?
Like they said, you got a good deal. I just paid $1100 to remove and reinstall my engine, new coupler, new U joints and new gimbal bearing. That is including the parts.
BTW, I got a pretty good deal at that price. If I had paid full retail for parts and full price for labor hrs, it would have been closer to $1600-1700. |
