We need a driver for LOTO on Sat.

We have about 20 people going to our house this weekend so we rented a pontoon for Party Cove on Sat. We need a sober driver. They will not be sober enough to drive. I am driving our boat but need someone to drive the other. We are all 21-26 yr. olds. Let me know if you have any ideas. We will pay someone. Also, do you know of anyone that can drive us around from our house to Horny Toad and Shooters? Also, if you see a bunch of people on a pontoon, stop and say hi. We will have a blue and white 25 Checkmate also.

Yeah, there are some chicks, but most of them are spoken for already.

Let's see, 20 people on a pontoon on Saturday of a Holiday weekend at Lake of the Ozarks. Stay close to the shoreline.

Yeah, I agree, leave that pontoon at the dock. Hate to read about another boating accident :(

Illegal to pay a person to captain a boat unless they are licensed...  I also agree unless you plan on going VERY early and staying REAL late, or the pontoon boat is HUGE I would not try this one. It WILL go underwater a few times.... or worse..... Make sure you have enough life jackets for everyone on board!!

boy you guys take the fun out of everything, alcohal and boating go hand in hand, ya sometimes it doesn't go well but that's life, it is called natural selection. but most of the time it is just plain fun. and where the hell are my smialy faces, i need smiley faces for this one, and there arn't any to be found, what is up with that!

Babysitting a couple dozen drunk 21-25 year olds in PC on Memorial Day weekend!
Where do I sign up!
BTW that pontoon will be a submarine with 20 people and all their gear. I expect you'll stuff it at the left turn about 1 mile from PC. Happens every year with the boat wakes there.

you are ablsolutly right :(
boating and drinking go hand and hand :(

there is something to be said about having fun and drowning
your life reastion will be different when it gets to be your turn

however, reality and common sense should prevail. especially when PLANNING to be stupid. Might be a good idea to PLAN stupidity sooner.
why not take TWO pontoons and tie off
Because god knows 90% of the boats will NOT tye off wiht a toon.
I had one try a few years ago. they were trying when I was not looking.
Asked them for a $10,000 tye up fee!!
Told them no way in hell is that thing getting close to my boat!

i say load that thing with 50 people, get blind drunk and sink it in the middle of the lake, this would give the bone head renta cops something to do other than screw with people with nice boats about there load exaust!!!!

Someone at least give the guy some credit for thinking ahead. Either someone shows and drives the boat, or one of the passengers will get drunk enough to drive it themselves.
Good luck on your designated dork hunt. And good job being responsible!

OK, so the "Sign me up" comment was not needed.
But I was serious about 20 people stuffing that toon at the 3 1/2 mm of the GG arm.
Happens every holiday weekend.

Re: We need a driver for LOTO on Sat.

Having been there this past weekend, I do not think this is a smart idea. Granted the no wake zone for the weekend takes forever to get to PC when they have it in place, the water will still be too big at times for an overloaded pontoon. You are looking for an accident. Sure, normal operation, you may be just fine with 20 people. Imagine if a storm whips up. People are going to haul ass out of PC, the water is going to get huge, and THEN, you have the storm to deal with.

I have some thoughts about the whole Drinking and Driving thing and responsibility. I will keep them to myself, and not preach here on OSO, however, I did start an interesting poll about D&D in the off-topic section that had quite some good insight about how we all are. Resposibility is PARAMOUNT when you are boating, or just plain anything.

This should give you some idea of the boat wakes in that area and how well an overloaded pontoon will fare:

Mpally,
We had a 24' Tri-toon for years as a party barge... you remember?
Leave early, stay late, and pack light... you'll be fine as long as you have a sober / LOTO experienced driver. Keep the weight away from the front and this will help keep you from stuffing the poon-toon, you will surely get wet but I say you'll be fine. I would help you out in a second, but I will not be down for the holiday weekend. Be safe bro... Talk to ya soon!
Regards

Re: We need a driver for LOTO on Sat.

Wow, a little harsh on me huh? Some of you guys need to re-read the post. First of all, we have two boats. There will not be more than 10-12 people on the pontoon. Second of all, I guess I should have just said screw it, let one of the drunk bastards drive the think home. I guess this is what I get for trying to be a responsible boater huh? Yes, will be arriving early and leaving late. And we are only going to Bridgeport.

I think you are being responsible looking for a DD. I do think you may have a few too many people on the boat but if it is well within the rated limits and you leave later in the day then you "should" be ok but please leave some room for error.

Good luck with your search.

mpally- damn, some people have the panties in a bunch!!! use your head, keep the weight in the back and forward movement and you'll be fine. just as tbone said, arrive early, leave late and pack light....that also means no fatties!!! sounds like good times to me....:)

I'm just wondering what boater on this website would waste a Saturday of a holiday weekend ferrying around non-boaters in a rental pontoon?

Water get Huge??? at LOTO??? what do you consider "HUGE"

here on Lake Michigan HUGE is anything over 10 feet
5 to 6 is just a reson to fire up the boat

Re: We need a driver for LOTO on Sat.

I wouldn't make fun of the wakes/waves at LOTO near the party cove. I have been there many times and I have seen the owners of 38 Cigs etc. have a strange look on their face when faced with 8-10 ft washing machine slop and boats all around them. I run a 24 footer and I have been on Lk Michigan in 6-8 footers and I had an easier time navigating that compared to the boat wakes made by all the boats coming/going to the Party Cove. It must be seen to be appreciated. On a good weekend there are 30-50 foot Searays etc all leaving at the same time, plus the water is deep, around 70 feet. I have crossed from Chicago to St. Joe and the deepest we saw was 95 feet, even though no shoreline was visible.

I am glad I am not going this weekend because I don't want to be near/witness that pontoon going to the bottom, because it will happen.

outlawinil 05-26-2004 04:59 PM

Re: We need a driver for LOTO on Sat.

Imagine those 5-6' waves coming from 4 different directions crashing together. Yeah a 5-6 footer coming from one direction is like a well stirred barge wake here on the Mississippi, a piece of cake

I think the Idea sounds worse than it is. I'm sure you guys will be responsible just don't get so F-ed up that you can't function if you guys get into a bad situation. Theres a big difference between getting too buzzed to drive legally and getting hammered to the piont of retardation. my .02 If I lived closed I'd do it, sorry.

Re: We need a driver for LOTO on Sat.

I think this thread is more about the number of people that will be on the Toon and also the Toon's rough water abilities. Then factor in a bunch of sauce and guess what?? IT AIN'T GOOD
