Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
I need help from my fellow Jersey/ Philly area boaters. I'm looking for a decent ramp facility on the Delaware river (Jersey side). I'm from Vineland & mostly boat around the AC area, But it's getting boring. Are there any decent ramps between Salem & Camden? Safe parking, etc?
Thanks, BTW My current ride is a 1995 26' Velocity. |
Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Come across the Delaware Memorial Bridge and use the Delaware City public ramp, then you can access the Delaware river or go through the canal and head out towards the Chesapeake bay, your boating oportunities are endless down here, good water, resturaunts, etc.Check it out.

Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Boat on the river every weekenda and live on it.
1) Hargroves marina in Berlin, get people nice ramp lots of dock guys to assist. 2) Lighting Jacks marina best one I have seen no current great ramp launch up to 45' There are plenty more I just perfer these |
Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Seems to me that I've seen a decent-looking one across from the Philly Airport - Looks like some sort of state park. Hyper's got the best idea: Head for Chesapeake Bay - 2,500 square miles of water and 4,000 miles of coastline. It's only a 13-mile run through the C&D Canal.

Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Katywonpus,
Do you pull your boat with a New Chevy2500HD Quad or extra cab. I have seen your rig in Vineland. I am originally from Vineland (still work in Vineland) but moved to Mays Landing. I saw your boat at Shadey River Marina last summer. Welcome to OSO. This site is great source of info. and Knowledge. |
Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
I think there is a ramp in Rancocas Park on the river. Off of RT.130 in Bordentown.

Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Bordentown is a little too far from Vineland, in my opinion. Lightning Jack's in Riverside sux at anything but high tide, again, my opinion, as I watched it being dredged and the marina being rebuilt from the old place. Ran-Del Marina (Riverside, if still in business) has a decent ramp, but watch at low tide. I would look farther south than Riverside, tho. Wilmington,De has a couple local ramps, and I'm sure there is something around Pennsville, NJ.

Thanks for the input guys.
1HYPER1 Do you have directions to get to Del city public ramp from the bridge? I'd like to check that one out this Saturday. Rocco, Yup that was me at Shady river. :D |
Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Hargroves is in Bellmawr not Berlin. Nice facility. Hellava tide runs past the ramp. Past couple of years dock help has been maginal at best. $20 to launch $350 a season and the close at dusk :( and they have been closing at 5pm.
I used them for 10 years. I found a brand new one right on the river in Gloucester City at the end of Jersey and King streets right below the Walt Whitman Bridge. $12 to launch $150 a season. Super nice facility...all new...nice docks...nice ramp(even at low tide) , shielded from running tides. I've been driving my 27' Formula on the trailer with NO problems :D I personally would rate it A1 |
Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Yeah , 1hyper1 , I'd like directions too. I enjoy the Chesapeake in but the run from Gloucester is getting a little pricey for lunch. We're talking $200 in gas
The Ol' PSD does a whole lot better and then I can run from Delaware City. How about from the Commodor Barry and Del Mem Br. |
Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Thats what I wanna hear, "A1 rated ramp" :D
I'm definately gonna check this one out. |
Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
C-Spray ,
The one across from the airport is in National Park NJ. Nice ramp , nice docks and 18" of water at low tide. Not much good for anything but a jon boat. I know people who got out and walked their boat in  . You're also at the mercy of every passing wake including tugs  . There is warning signs posted for both potential problems  |

Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
There is a ramp in Pennsville, NJ that works fairly well from mid to high tide. However, there is no dock there, just a ramp. You can beach your boat however. There is also a ramp towards Salem at a marina down there. I would probably do Chesapeake City on the C&D if you have the time.

Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
There is a ramp at the Neshaminy State Park. Probably a little too far north for you. A protected ramp, and enough parking for any size rig.

Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Mopower - How do you get to the one in Gloucester City? I've been using Hargroves but I'd like to check this one out. How late is it open?

Re: Decent boat ramps on the Delaware River?
Jon,
Go past Hargroves and out to the circle. Around the circle and under the RR bridge. Take the first right off the next circle up into Gloucester. Up aways and around a bend you will see a wide street that goes off on an angle to the left(Jersey ave) Follow that to the end and its right in front of you. OR Market street exit off of rte 42 make a left aat the top of the ramp and follow it to the end. Make a left on King street . It's about two blocks on the right. How late is it open? About as late as you want. The gates will be getting closed in the future but season passes get keys to rest rooms , ramp gate , main gate and electronic pass card for dock access for a $25 deposit. You don't have to fight the tide like Hargroves :D . There is no dock next to the ramp , so I've been driving the boat off the trailer and Wifies been parking the truck. Then I meet her at the dock. When returning she'll get the truck and I'll drive the boat back on. So far it's got Hargroves beat handsdown :blaster: :D (and I've spent 10 years there) |
