OT: Anyone informed on 67-69 Cameros?

I've been looking at Cameros lately and had a few questions.

1) I realize RS is Rally sport and SS is super sport but what are the exact differences?

2)What does it mean when they say "RS/SS" together?

3) What's the best year?

4) Are the hidden headlights an aftermarket upgrade?

I know it's not boating related but theres got to be a few of you that are experts in this arena. Any more info is appreciated, thanks.

I believe the hidden headlights were a factory option and part of the RS/SS package. I think 1969 is the best year to have. Especially if you can find an original big block car. Most of the ones out there are 327 or 350. The 302 was only offered in the SS and very rare these days.

RS and SS were separate option packages, and you could purchase both, thus RS/SS. The hidden headlights were part of the RS package, I believe (not sure on this one).

67 (and maybe 68?) had single leaf rear springs, IIRC. 69's had multileaf rear springs. Believe 67s were stuck with Powerglide autos rather than TH350s or TH400s (not sure about the 400s). 67's were limited to 327's as the top power (again, not 100% sure). I'm going from memory so don't quote me. All in all, the 69 is the best year but the 67's and 68's are less common.

My neighbor has one - nice ride!

RS and SS are options

I like 68's the best....SS with a big block

Hide away headlights come with the RS option

Actually the DZ302 came only in 67-69 model Z-28's. The difference being that the 69 DZ302 was a 4-bolt main block while the 67-68 DZ302's were 2 bolt main blocks. The DZ302 was a 327 block with a 283 crankshaft that registered 302.4 cubic inches. It is also one of the most wicked small block motors ever built. They showed some incredible "true" horsepower numbers.

My father had an all original 69 Z-28 when I ws a kid, blue with white racing stripes. It is my favorite car that I hope to one day own. I want the huger orange with white stripes, houndstooth interior and the gauges on the console :)

Be carefull. There are proably more RS, SS and Z-28's out there now than ever left the factory. A real one with the big motor will bring mucho bucks. The best car may be the unrestored California small block or inline 6 car. You know what you are getting and won't feel guilty about not restoring it to a Concourse condition.
