Need 540 Engine Builder
 

I am about ready to pull the triger and have an engine built and I need a builder.

I want to build a std deck 540 with all the good stuff, no junk foreign parts. I am looking for an engine which will have the following,
-Merlin or Dart block, forged internals, alumn heads, APR bolts, etc Capable of 900+HP
-8.5 to max 9.0 compression
-port matched single plane manifold
-heads- AFR 315ccCNC or JimV ported ones, cometic gasket or O-ringed
-about 650-700HP N/A, max rpm of 5600
-cam- hydraulic roller, ?crane 731 or 741
-rockers- comp or jessel
-nickerson carb, not dominator
-Eichert valve covers 2 piece

-After I get it in the boat and broken in I will then supercharge it with some of my centrifugal parts or get the RTech setup and run 8-9 pounds boost and see 900-1000 Hp and TQ.

This engine uses "Eagle" rods from China....... :eek: and a "non descript" forged crank... probably also from China..... :eek:

Gene at Lightning Performance (Lake of the Ozarks) does a great job. Several OSOers have had Gene build their motors recently (me included). He is a perfectionist when it comes to putting them together and will not use anything but quality parts. He also has 4 blower motors (2 pairs) for sale if anyone is interested.

Mine are 540 Dart Big M tall decks, SRP pistons, carrillo rods, GM perf heads, 9.75 to 1 CR, Dart single intake, Dominator 1050 carb (rebuilt and flowed by Nickerson), MSD 7 ignition with pro billet distributor. They run as smooth as my old 454s. Estimated 680 to 700 HP. Runs on 91 octane. He named them Thump and Bump.

i had a engine at crocket and after 4 weeks could not tell me what it would cost so i said i will pick it up and he said you will have to go through the garbage cans to get your parts did that and ordered new motors

Im trying to get educate myself on building a good motor package without spending the kind of money TEAGUE wants. I hear that GT gets around 30K for one of there 540EFI packages and teague is even higher. Spoke last week to a motor builder in northern, ca told him I was thinking of a mello, reliable motor package for a 26ft tunnel. Merlin block, JE pistons, ect. He was saying it would cost around 15K tops. Is this in the ball park? ID much rather just order a TURN KEY motor from a well know company, But they seem to be sooooo over priced. And stock Mercury marine also seems WAY over priced as well. What should one expect to pay for a EFI 540 motor, THAT WILL LAST?
