Drying the boat

How is everyone drying their boat after a wash? On Sunday nights I need to get it dry so I can put the full cover on the boat. Towels just take too long, so I was thinking about a California Water Blade. Any other options?

I use a back pack leaf blower . It works very well and dry's fast

Re: Drying the boat

If you want it really dry you need to use towels. The flat surfaces can be done with a squeegee but they do not work so well on angles.

a friend of mine uses the blade on his cat. its 40 feet long by 12 feet wide ( the cat . . .not the blade :D). thing works pretty good. knock the big stuff off with the blade and touch up with towel

I have a water deionizer that I rent by the month. It is the same as the car lots use to keep there vehicles clean. No drying needed at all. It dries completely spot free.

Re: Drying the boat

Adam, that is a MASSIVE boat for a two axle trailer. Holy crap!

I use the Water Blade, and the Absorber, (available at Wal-Mart in purple even). Touch up with a towel. For even easier work... I have a water blade attached to a long aluminum pole.

Brian-

2004 Myco Trailer 12,000lbs. Trailer. 6000 lb. axles. disc brakes on both axles. 16" wheels. and fits like a glove.

If you towed it, you would love it. Myco builds a great piece.

It looks great Adam. I love the trailer I got with Monsoon as well. Triple 6K axles; so I could store two jetskis on top of Monsoon just for fun. However I wish I had an explaination as to why one of the spindles is already bent. Its on the middle axle too, which is really strange. I have a replacement on the way which was only $50, but switching it out is going to be a b1tch. I hope it is only a bent spindle causing my tire balding. I went through this on the last boat trailer.

chamois as well....of course my boat is not as big as you guys ;) someday though..............someday :)

Re: Drying the boat

Brian- Moonsoon looks great. Todd took good care of her. As for your trailer, just be glad it's not a ROCKET TRAILER !!!
The middle axle being bent has got me stumped.
Maybe a question for "Hi Tech" on here.

Re: Drying the boat

I use the blade to get the big stuff off and them use the Absorber drying skin
to finish up. i also use the towells after the blade sometimes.

One thing I have noticed if ya use the towells . Do not use fabric softner or the dryer sheets,They want let it soak up as much water. if there is to much softner in them it will smear on the boat.

The water softners they have out now that hook up to the hose helps on the water spots with hard water.Water spots suck..

We use water blades on the flat areas and then take care of the rest with an Absorber or two.

Here is the best materiall to dry the boat in the hole world!!!. :D

It is smooth, takes a lot of water, oil and other stuff.
if you have an oil spill in the engine room just take a couple of these and throw them under the engine it will suck up al of it in a swish.

I use the water blade to get the big areas touch up with a towel. The blade cuts the time in half.

I should correct myself , I don't use a real chamois, I use an absorber. We got tons of them here at work and they are awsome.

My daughter gave me one of those Mr. Clean AutoDry wash kits.
It works exactly as advertised. I use it on the boat too. The final rise dries very fast with no towels and no spots.

Look in the yellow pages for your area. The place I rent from rents to car lots and detaliers. They were a little suprised when I told them I wanted it for my boat.

It is a fiberglass bottle (looks like a welding tank) and it is good for 1500 gallons. You hook a hose to the bottle going in and another coming out, simple. I pay $35.00 a month and $90.00 when it needs to be changed out. They come to my house and exchange the bottle for me. It has a light on top of the bottle that tells you when it needs to be changed.

I tryed the Mr. Clean product but the deionizer puts out much more water, and for a 38' boat it is much faster.

The deionizer works so well I am suprised more people don't use them. I can wash my entire boat, including the motors and bilge, in about an hour with no spots at all.

How long does it take to dry? I don't want to wait more than 20 minutes from time I wash to time I put the cover on the boat.

I ordered the California blade this afternoon. I like the idea of the back pack blower but I'd probably fall off the boat and into the water, boat is on a lift. Although it would work great on the sides. My son slipped last night and told me I was getting the Mr Clean washing stuff for fathers day, so I'll be trying that too.

Well Hell's Bells....you can't wait longer? What's the big rush? Walk back up to your shack, have a couple beers and then put the DAMN cover on!! :D

Then I'll fall in for sure. Takes about 20 minutes to put the full cover on including all the bungees since I have to move one of the docks around to get under the boat. Besides, if I come in a say 8, takes almost 2 hours to fog and flush the motors, wash and dry, then it's dark so the boat isn't going to air dry anyway. I do think the neighbors will love the blower running at night, I really like that idea.

Seen them at Auto Zone before.
I keep one on board for getting rid of the morning dew and bugs that cover the bow when we stay out over nite. Work GREAT! Otherwise the Absorber is used. Works better than chamois.

I have Absorber now. Works great but the blade looks good and then absorber to complete. I'll try Auto Z too. Tnks.

Wow looks like a lot of us had the same ideas.
I use the Blade and follow with a towel.

FYI for the northeast guys. I have been finding white bath towels at Meijer for $1.00 a piece and 5 wash cloths in a bundle for $1.00 (they make nice quick clean rags.)

I bought 30 towels and never have to dig around for an old T-shirt it's awesome having a never ending supply of soft towels :D

under which catagory in the yellow pages? Do you have a manufacturer's name?

Re: Drying the boat

I think I found it under water purification or something like that. If you can't find it there I would go to your local car lot or call a detailing service and see who they use. If you ever see a mobile detailer they usually have the bottles in the back of their trucks. I actually came up with the idea after I watched one used on my boat after it was worked on at a boat lot.

The bottle does not have a brand name on it. I have seen them for sale in the $1500. range, but then you have to find a place who can service it. I think it is much better to rent.

As far as drying time, it does not dry any faster than regular water would, just spot free. At home I just stick it in the garage wet and the next day it is dry with no spots.

In Havasu it dries much quicker because of the heat, but I have also driven it around the block to air dry it before I put the cover on. A leaf blower would probably work well also.

I use the blade and a real chamois. This is a good subject! For me it is a never ending process :( :( I have too much freaking paint! I think the next boat will be a fairly simple white. :D Those feathers on the bow get a little warm
