Took someone's word,lost the sale.

Sorry about the NY guy. I just want to add one more: "Don't stop being a good guy because the NY guy screwed you."
Things have a way of working themselves out. Keep doing the "sleep good at night" method.

Sometimes it sucks being a honest , decent man.........But.....I still think it pays off in the long run.....You have a great reputation. A scarce thing in the boat biz !!

I gotta say, having been a NY boat dealer for over 35 years, the two guys that stuck me the worst in all that time, split to Florida (the escaping debtor state). In spite of all the stuff wrong with this state (and I admit there's lots) I really don't need to hear a FL guy bashing all New Yorkers. I'll probably move when I can but I sure as hell don't need an unearned label! Just like Robert, my word could always be banked on, and in spite of losing sometimes, I still got more friends and sleep better at night than the few that got me: in spite of the fact that I'm still in NY! --- jp

Robert- Your reputation as a truly honest dealer will be paid back to you many times over. Hopefully the guy from NY buys a boat from you when he is again in a position to.

Your straight forward, honest way of conducting business is your strength.
Another buyer will come along shortly and you'll forget all about this guy. This was just one deal. I've read so many positive comments from your customers on this forum that I'm positive you don't need to change your practices.
One bad deal vs. thousands of happy customers. Heck, you knew the answer to your question long before I typed a word.

Theres always going to be people like that Robert, but the way you do business is the reason I would drive down to Alabamba to buy a boat from you again. Except next time I think I might want to test drive all the toys tied up at the dock

I'm sure there is lots of good boat people from NY. Don't take it out on the next guy and continue what has made you tops in the boating industry. You know there is always going to be a customer that will try to ruin your day.
I also would consider buying from someone like you.

Re: Took someone's word, lost the sale.
This is not a NewYork thing,I have lots of good guy customers in New York . He had a right to back out,I guess. It would have been better had he told me Thurs there might be a problem, then my Kentucky customer would have bought the boat and everything would have been fine. My issue was not so much his right to back out,I just didn't think he should have denied me the opportunity to go for the sure sale in Ky. But,hey,I've lost sales before and will again. The boat will sell and everything will pass. I certainly appreciate the comments here,OSO is a wonderful place to go to vent and get support, thanks everyone,
