I have the number for one of the main engineers at Ilmor, Maybe they will want to hire you. :evilb: |

The 15W-40 is API rated CG/SJ; CF-2, Mack EOM and Cummins CES ...it would be great for marine use. The 20W-50 is not API rated and here is what I have found out about it: It is a high performance oil with a high level of friction reduction additives that started off as a paraffinic based oil as opposed to a PAO or ester. It's base has a lot in common with PAO's so the base oil is comparable to Mobil-1 or Amsoil's. Additives: Magnesium: 6 Phosphorous: 1384 Zinc: 1747 Calcium: 3227 Moly: 146 Cst's @ 100*C 70 This sample of Swepco 20W-50 would compare to the base and additives expected to be seen in Premium Synthetic oils such as Amsoil Severe Service 20W-50 Racing; Royal Purple 20W-50 racing; Redline 20W-50 or Mobil-1 20W-50 V-twin. I am awaiting test results from Alisyn as well. All of the above oils including Swepco would reduce friction and keep bearings cool and are the best 20W-50's around. |
Re: POLL: which oil do you use ?
Hydro you are exactly correct about Swepco, Does not mix with h2o, drive oil is also awesome, oil sticks to everything reducing wear upon initial start, looks as good after 30 hours as it does at new. I have found it to increase power somewhat and bottom line protect my large investment in my motors. Nortech has switched exclusively to it as well as numerous other builders. Ron Potter would not switch if it was'nt the best. just bought 11 cases of it, and have alot of high performance boaters have changed to it at LOTO. Wiggler

What does a quart of 20W-50 Swepco cost you guys and where are you buying it from? Are you guys running K & N oil filters? They seem to be the best trade off between excellent flow and good trapping...certainly better than the Frams they say. Dual bypass flitration is really the way to go however. |
Re: POLL: which oil do you use ?
Hopefully their high performance oil is better than their low end commercial cheap sh!t. It's good to hear something about them, b/c we never hear anything about them unless they are cutting our nuts on price for the Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40. God, you gotta love competition.

I have the number for one of the main engineers at Ilmor, Maybe they will want to hire you. :evilb: It's amazing. Roger Penske sold Detroit Diesel for 2.5 billion... All Detroit's ever used is Mobil product. Roger also owns a big stake of Ilmor. They machine his team engines. All they use is Mobil 1. Trust me, ExxonMobil does not pay GM or any other company to put their oil in the cars. Everyone of them pay for that prodcut. The factory approval process is rigirous. Now when I have been to ExxonMobil testing facilities, the difference in hp and wear are amazing when they break the engine's down. This is one of the first times, I have heard so many tierrible stories. There are many magic tricks in the oil business... The old egg beater tricks still seem to work. It all comes down to the personal preference, and as I have stated in the past "whatever gives you the warm fuzzy feeling inside" |
