Yep.....pretty funny! The rules measure from the transom, not LOA. So a 42 Fountain can run if you remove about 6-7 inches of the beak, then glass or screw it back on.

Now....this year changed the rules to 43 feet from the transom. No more beak cutting, unless you really trim the beak off a 47 Fountain. :D :D :D

Heading to Newport in a little bit, then on to Catalina for the night! I'll post from the island.

We are tan , rested and ready!
Rested???
You old guys are soo funny.
No need for rest with two shots of espresso and a couple of redbulls.

See you at the meeting this afternoon.
I will have pics to post Monday, my girlfriend will be at the finish line so if anyone wants pics of specific boats, post a description and I will give her the info.

How do you attach the tow rope the boat? Haven't seen many offshores with a ski pylon ;)

Re: Catalina Ski Race.......THIS SATURDAY!!!

We are using a custom pylon made by Lu with Turbosonic. The poles attach to the rails around the engine hatch and rear grab rails. It has never overstressed any part of the boat and gives the skier a better angle of attack with the rope position (Not pulling him down toward the transom. I cannot say enough good things about this. Lu is the man when it comes to custom engineering!!! We need to get him on Monster Garage.

Majicfloat, we're the ones who pulled the great Chuck Stearns to his last OVERALL wins, '79 and '81. One trip was a new record at 1:01.10, but thats long gone, its down to 52 min I think. Chuck skied a few more years in other classes and did well, but overall he won the Catalina eleven (11) times. We were not looked upon favorably in those days, we used a BIG boat; a 32 foot Spectra. Today if not in the 38 to 43 range, your not trying hard enough. A few years later, I went back to the traditional ski race boat (21 Schiada), set a one way record going over but got blown off by a "big" boat coming back. Back then GPS was illegal but an airplane was OK. Damn, those were fun days...

New record this year....we're at the turn. First to the turn was Marty Wells behind a bad ass Fountain.....he was also first back to Long Beach in record time. Sixty two miles in 50 minutes and 43 seconds. WOW!!!
