New Record - Catalina Ski Race

Todd Haig set a new unofficial time of 50:45 this morning while blowing the doors off a fleet of 81 entries. Gentleman Jack Lynch drove a perfect race in his single purpose Fountain. It was obvious to all that leaving the beak on the boat improved the speed. Todd was so strong at the end he looked like he could have gone over and back again.
Look for a upset of some sort in the outboat class, an F-2 boat was third overall, however a time correction will have to be made as they start 7 minutes early. Regardless, that llittle boat was haulin. Also, the outboard MAY have been pulling a woman! Will have to comfirn that.
Congratulations to Todd, Jack and team...

That is some crazy racin'!!! Not only do the boats have to perform but they are towing a skier, at 80 mph!!!! I think I would drop dead after the 1st 1/4 mile!

no throttle jockies in ski racing, you've got to take care of your skier. The whole team has to work together, the observer not only takes signals from the skier, but must know the habits and attitude of of the skier, no laying back, no trying too hard if he/she is tired, and saving something for the sprint to the finish if possible. Its a great team sport. Todays race was not only loaded with good old fashioned ski boats, but some super poker runners and offshore racers as well. If you can ski for an hour at 80 mph in the ocean, you could possibly win overall, if you can ski 60 for an hour you could win one of the many other classes...

Hey Jonas:

Tony's 382 with the Arnesons were awesome, unfortunately Philipe the skier did not get his ski from the airline until Saturday night and was skiing on borrowed equipment. Still did the race in under a hour
