Default Best SONAR for finding anchor?

I snapped my anchor rode this weekend. Shallow water (14') but can't find the sob. 35# Danforth Hi Tensile. I want it back.

I fished for an hour with a big magnet on a string. I was floating around on a jetski and it was hard to stay in one place.

Does anybody know if some of the newer fish finders/sounders have good enough resolution to give some help?

I know where it is within a 100' circle.

any tips would be appreciated.

Tell me if you find my drill, I dropped it working on my boat and never found it. (only 6' of water, but must have sunk in the muck at the bottom.)

There is nothing that will see it on the bottom. The only way is to dive and feel if you can't see down there. 100ft is a huge area when under water. Good luck and buy a snorkle and mask.

14' aint deep at all....get some snorkel gear and dive down looking for it. I did that outside Diversey harbor here in Chicago in 20' of water......took me about 25min to find it. I too had it marked on my GPS where i lost it and was about 100' or so from it

If nothing else, get the snorkel and mask and maybe you can just see it from the surface. With the magnet, you could miss it by 6" and never know it. Every time you pick the magnet up, it'll move 2' feet, so you'll find it only by luck.

Woods Hole has a nice sidescan setup they might let you borrow for a small fee. Short of that, scuba might be a good idea.

P.S. -- let me know if you go with the sidescan.

If it's a hard flat bottom and the anchor didn't sink in then a good fish finder should pick it up. But you will need someone that is very familiar with the equipment to distinguish the marking on the graph. I mean come on if a good graph can pick up a crappie jig suspended or a 12' walleye laying on the bottom, I guarantee it will pick up the big anchor. Unfortunately if the bottom is soft and the anchor sunk in or very rock so it blends in then you will have problems.

Depending on the water clarity you could try an under water camera used for fishing.

Um, you might want to add up the cost in time, gas, aggravation, etc and compare that to the cost of a new anchor.

If there is any line attached to the chain, then drag for it with a heavy fishing treble-hook.
