Use the plastic bag method but also slip a large ziplock bag over the filter for containment when removing. Zip it, let it down in the plastic bag.

When adding new oil I use the screw on hose nozzle with a twist closure, place the quart upside down, open the valve and also take a knife and slit what would be the bottom of the plastic container to let air inside. A few seconds and each quart is emptied.

theres a 5 dollar cure for splillage on inverted oil filters. Go to the auto supply store, buy a 1/8 pipe 45 degree male to female elbow, a 1 inch male/male nipple, a 90 degree female to female elbow and a pipe plug, all brass, some sealer or teflon tape and you're all set. Remove the oil filter adaptor after marking a spot to drill that gives you clearance to access the pipe plug. Drill and tap the adaptor to accept the 45 fitting, then connect the nipple and the 90 so the 90 points downward. use tape or sealer at all connections including the plug. Before removing the filter next time, remove the plug and drain the filter before removing it.

Hello, just like downtown says, wrap a few plastic bags around filter and spin off. pre loosen before you bag that bad boy. I have had great luck with this.
as for the engine oil, I SUCK it out through dip sticker.

I have used this oil filter drain kit for aircraft engines. It will fit on the filter for the 500 EFI. Sporty's Pilot shop online. Works great!

I use the oil tube supplied by Mercury Racing...and Billet Marines billet oil filter with a cartridge....works every time.

Yes, I have 500EFI's. It will also fit all automotive replacement filters. I use mobil 1 filters.

Dont make it so difficult, a few minutes before you drain the oil just punch a couple holes in the top of the filter let it drain back down and viola' no fuss no muss, no need to buy anything.

Wonder if it was automatically deleted by the mods or if someone is somehow using his screen name. I checked it three times. It clearly said Troutly as the last post on this Thread, but you click to the last page and no post by Troutly was there.....
