For those that change your own oil

Just curious about the interest fellow boaters would have in a device that makes changing the oil filter quicker and cleaner. I know with the good oil filters they have a check valve in them so when you puncture them before you remove them they really don't drain well and then it becomes a mess.

You can select more than one if you like.

I use a couple plastic grocery bags wrapped around filter when I remove. Works fine.

With Mec/ Gil exhaust my filters are horizonal now. It they were vertical it would be a snap. I put a rag under and spin fast. The thing I hate is putting the new one on dry. I learned a trick from hydrocruiser, I pull the lanyard and crank the engine for a few seconds, this primes the top of the engine nicely. So what are you up to in this department?. :)

I purchased ($10?) a device from E-Bay that looks basically like an over-grown cup-holder. Has rubber fingers inside that grips the oil filter and a reservoir that catches the ensuing spill (for those of us who still have "right side up" filters).

Can't remember the link right now, but if anyone is interested I can find it.

there is so much oil in my bildge that i could just run a hose from the bottom of my bildge to the pickup tube instead of having an oil pan.

I don't want to say too much about it right now because we are still finalizing it. What it will do is eliminate the need to put the rags all over the place and should make it a quicker task. Originally it was made with the 496 and 500efi motors in mind but should work with many other applications.

I change my oil by bursting a riser gasket and blowing oil all over the engine compartment.

:D
