Volunteers still sought for offshore boat race
The Blue Water Offshore Racing Association is seeking volunteers for the St. Clair River Classic powerboat races Saturday and Sunday. Boats will begin to arrive Thursday. Volunteers are needed for dry pits, where the boats are stored on land, and wet pits, where boats are docked. Boaters also are needed to patrol the river during time trials and races. Volunteers will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in City Hall, 547 N. Carney Drive. Dry-pit volunteers should call Gerry Mason at (810) 329-7816. Wet-pit volunteers should call Steve Brunner at (586) 292-9002. Patrol-boat volunteers should call Bill Mapes at (586) 703-6110. All others can call the River's Bend Marina at (810) 329-2908. Test runs will be 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The races start at noon Sunday.
