Eliminator 28 with twin Scorpions ???

Anyone have any idea how fast a 28 daytona would be with twin Scorpion 377's ? I'm thinking about getting one next year, thinking this would be a great setup to run high 80's and get great fuel efficiency. Then when I am ready to break 100 I can get a pair of whipples.

TIA

Although the Scorpion is a wicked engine in looks and performance, it was mostly a sales flop. Mercury has since discontinued production of the engine. This will affect your resale down the road, and they were unbelieveably expensive in the first place, rivalling the cost of an HP500EFI. I am not 100% sure, but I think they require 93 octane due to their compression ratio as well.

If it were me, I would steer clear of them.

I bought a 04 28 Daytona w/box's and 350 mags, best was 78 GPS. I pulled the mags and replaced them with supercharged 509's, now Im at 115. Good luck

cat-n-round, did you give any thought to putting whipples on those 350's ? The light weight and approximately 500HP you would get out of them would have been a nice combination as long as they remained reliable.

That's too bad that the Scorpions are being discontinued, I'll have to look at either twin 495mag HO's or a 27' Eliminator with a single 525HP and then add a whipple later on.

There was a guy on the Hotboat.net board that had a Daytona (I believe it was a 26) with Whippled small blocks. I think it ran in the 130-140 mph range. I believe his screen name is Cat & Mice. He could probably give you some good info.

Mike Pyle, aka Cat&Mice. He is in SLC Utah. His 28 Low Profile Eliminator has Pfaff built small blocks and is said to be in the 140-150 mph. area. I believe it is for sale, if it has not sold already. It is very, very nice. Sam

I don't think that the scorpions and sutable candidates for superchargers. Compression, pistons, etc. You would be better off to build some 383's with the right parts and sell the merc blocks.

Somebody put scorpions in thier cat and called it the scorpion edition,I cannot remember which manufacturer did it,although I know it was not eliminator. As a matter of fact there was a write up in either Hot Boat or Powerboats within the last couple of months about the boat and there was one for sale in either one of those classifieds in the back of the Magazine.I believe it was one of the Florida manufacturers, anyway, the boat will do 100mph according to the article with the twin scorpions and the price was about 130K.

Wow Guys, great info !

I saw Mike Pyle's boat on a website - very trick engines and looked great but nothing was mentioned of top speed.

I can imagine that the 320HP 350's would work well with whipples, if I could get over 100mph with a setup like that in a 28' eliminator that would be awesome. Does anyone know how well the 320HP 350's can hold up long term to the whipple setup ? I have a 350 (348) LS1 engine in my 2001 Camaro SS that can take a hell of a pounding as long as it is maintained well. I would think about 470-500HP out of that motor would be pretty reliable and really move. It's either that or twin 425 HO's but the price would be more and I'm not sure how balanced a 28' CAT would be with twin big blocks. Anyone know what the best outdrive is that can be purchased on the 320HP 350's ?

I Run A 2003 28 Daytona. The Boat Was Delivered With 496ho, 1.35 Bravo Xr, Imco Extension, 30p Lab Bravos. Eliminator Claimed 92 Mph At Lake Elissinore In Cali. Boat Would Run 88.7 On Gps With A Light Load. This Is Under Real Operating Conditions(full Interior, Passengers, Etc).i Recently Installed 620hp 511 Ci Bowties And Now Have A Real Boat. The Hull Handles Big Water Excellent And Is Perfectly Balanced With The Big Blocks. The Boat Runs 108+ With The 30p Bravos Full Fuel, Full Cabin, 4 Passengers. I Feel After Having Made The Mistake Of Originally Equipping The Boat With Mild Mercrusier Power That I Wasted A Lot Of Time And Money. This Hull Needs 600+ Hp Per Motor To Deliver The Hair-raising Performance You Deserve!

Re: Eliminator 28 with twin Scorpions ???

fastcash,

I have heard claims as high as 97 with twin 496mag ho's. I also hear that the extension boxes are a must on the 28 with big blocks. I'd put whipples on the 496's and get 600hp each out of them after I had the boat a while.

Wondering how triple 300x's would run ?

Re: Eliminator 28 with twin Scorpions ???

Ny,
They Do Claim Up To 97 Mph With 496s, Extensions, Labs, Etc. I Don't Know What Kind Of Truck They Use To Haul The Boat Up To These Speeds, But I Would Sure Like To See It!!!!! The 496 Just Does Not Have Enough Muster To Bring This Hull To Life. The Boat Is Sluggish On Plane And Takes A Long Time To Accelerate To The Big Number. The Craftmenship Of The Hull And The Tooling Are Awesome. My Experience Is That This Hull Needs Bigger Power To Give The Performance We All Want.

Bob Leach, one hour ago, backed up FASTCASH says and showed me pics of the guages. Quite the boat! I am looking at the 28 with twin 496's. No extensions or labbed props but for me but I'm not a top speed kinda guy.
